Fairchance Construction Octoberfest 5k Run/Walk and Mom Maruca's Beer Mile & Beer Mile Relay
SAT OCT 3
This Uniontown, Pennsylvania event combines a Fairchance Construction Octoberfest 5k run/walk with Mom Maruca's Beer Mile and a Beer Mile Relay. The start is at 64 Barton Mill Road, with options for 1.6 km, 5 km, and 6.4 km distances. The 5k serves as the standard run-or-walk choice. The Beer Mile and relay add a more playful element to the day. This structure suits an Octoberfest race day, allowing participants to select a standard 5k, a shorter beer-mile format, or a team effort via the relay.
Sardis Fire and Rescue Run
SAT OCT 3
The Sardis Fire and Rescue Run is a 5K held at the former Riverview Golf Course, starting and finishing at the same location. Miles of Smiles Timing manages the chip timing, though the atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming runners, joggers, walkers, and pets. The course specifics are not detailed, but the event focuses on community backing over a complex route. Participants receive drinks and light refreshments post-race. Those registered by race day will get a Sardis Fire and Rescue Run T-shirt. All funds raised benefit the Sardis Volunteer Fire Department, supporting their volunteer efforts for the community.
Shriners 5K
SAT OCT 3
Bryon Martini Jr. 5k Memorial Run/Walk
SUN OCT 4
The Bryon Martini Jr. 5K Memorial Run/Walk is a 5 km community run and walk held at Washington Run Park in Perryopolis, Pennsylvania, scheduled for early October. A Kiddie K is also part of the event, allowing families to participate even if not all members wish to complete the full 5K. The race honors Bryon Martini Jr. and supports local causes. All proceeds provide scholarships for graduating seniors at Frazier High School. Participants will also find raffles and T-shirts available on race day.
Miles for Migraine West Virginia
SAT OCT 10
Miles for Migraine West Virginia is a free walk-and-run event at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park in Morgantown, featuring a 2 Mile Walk and a professionally timed 5K Run. The walk can accommodate any intentional movement chosen by the participant, making the day suitable for runners, walkers, and individuals seeking a less intense way to participate. The event supports migraine and headache awareness, treatment, and research, with proceeds benefiting the West Virginia University Headache Center. The festival area will feature speakers and sponsors. Finishers of both the walk and run will receive medals, and participants are encouraged to wear purple for a chance to win a prize.
Pocono Mountains Marathon Race Festival
SAT OCT 10
The Pocono Mountains Marathon Race Festival is a fall running event held at Promised Land State Park in Greentown, Pennsylvania. The start and finish lines are located at the Upper Lake Overflow Parking Lot. Participants can select from a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or full marathon. The marathon is a certified Boston Marathon qualifier, with PA certification number 21011NP. The course winds through the state park during the fall foliage season, offering a wooded Pocono park running experience rather than city streets. Elite Feats organizes the event, and Mark Hughes is the race director. Awards are presented in male, female, and nonbinary categories, with age-group awards for nonbinary runners in the marathon, half marathon, and 10K. First-time half marathon and marathon finishers receive a commemorative plaque alongside their finisher medal. Registration includes a shirt, medal, and running socks.
Zombie Night Crawl
SAT OCT 24
Zombie Night Crawl is a 5K run held at night, featuring a survivor-versus-zombie flag game on the path surrounding the baseball fields opposite the CityNet Center. Participants begin as “survivors” equipped with three flags on a belt. The 5K is conducted in heats, which may be combined based on participant numbers. A separate Kids Run, one loop of the path, takes place before the main 5K heats. When the siren sounds, survivors navigate the zombie-infested area—walking, running, or crawling—while zombies attempt to remove their flags. Survivors complete the game by finishing in the top five overall for men or women, or by reaching the finish line with at least one flag remaining. Strategically placed med packs offer replacement flags, but only survivors with all three flags intact can collect them. Any flag obtained from a med pack must be immediately attached to the belt. The rules ensure fair play: flags cannot be tied on, held when a zombie is reaching, picked up from the ground, or taken from other survivors.
South Park 5K
SUN OCT 25
The South Park 5K, also known as The Loop 5K, is a spring road race in Charlotte, North Carolina, taking place in the SouthPark area. The course follows The Loop, a 3.1-mile urban trail designed to link various points within the neighborhood, making it a community-focused run rather than a race through a remote park. Participants will run along the tree-lined streets surrounding SouthPark Mall, navigating a moderately challenging course with rolling hills. The event attracts competitive runners, families, and casual joggers. The finish line opens into a block party featuring music, food, and local vendor stalls.
Veterans Trail Festival
SAT NOV 7
The Veterans Trail Festival begins and ends at the Recreation Hall in Raccoon Creek State Park, near Hookstown, Pennsylvania. The event features a 5K run/hike and also offers 20-mile and 50K trail races, accommodating walkers, newer trail runners, and ultra runners on the same day. The 5K follows an out-and-back path with a water station at the midpoint. The 20-mile and 50K routes primarily use single-track trails, presenting rocks, roots, challenging footing, and steep inclines, which often lead to the typical finisher comment: “That was harder than I thought it would be.” The longer races include five aid stations and ham radio tracking. The event benefits veteran and military service members via the Outdoor Immersion Team; 5K participants can also engage in fundraising.
Morgantown Running 5k Turkey Trot 2026
THU NOV 26
The Morgantown Running 5k Turkey Trot takes place on Thanksgiving morning in Morgantown, West Virginia. The kids’ 800m fun run begins first, followed by the 5k at 9:00 a.m. The main race starts on the blue track near the WVU Coliseum. Runners and walkers cover the same 5k distance, with registered walkers expected to complete the entire course on foot. Children under 12 have the option to enter the 5k or participate in the shorter Turkey Fun Run, a two-lap event on the blue track divided into heats for different age groups. The 5k route departs the track after nearly a full lap, descending Mon Boulevard before turning onto Boyers Avenue and Leeway Street. It then merges with the rail trail for approximately the last two miles, concluding behind the Seneca Center at Morgantown Running. Awards are presented to the top three male and female runners, and the top male and female walkers. Race results will be posted by age category. The first 1,000 registered participants receive socks. Morgantown Running also conducts random prize drawings. The event supports Girls on the Run of North Central West Virginia. Attendees may also bring donations for Christian Help, specifically men’s clothing, belts, shoes, and non-perishable proteins.
The Gratitude Run
THU NOV 26
The Gratitude Run is a Thanksgiving morning run and walk in Albuquerque, held at Arroyo del Oso Park near Wyoming and Spain. This is NHI's Annual Gratitude Run/Walk, featuring a 5K run/walk, a 1-mile walk, and a 400-meter kids' dash, accommodating families and casual walkers alongside runners. The route begins and ends at Arroyo del Oso Park, utilizing a dedicated course through Arroyo del Oso Golf Course. The event centers on the 4 F's: Family, Fun, Friendly, Free. Donations are optional, with proceeds supporting NHI programming for the upcoming year. Running Medicine offers an optional stretch circle before the races, strollers are permitted, the course can be quite bumpy, and pets are prohibited on the course.
Reindeer Run 5K at ShawneeCraft Brewery
SAT DEC 12
The Reindeer Run 5K, hosted at ShawneeCraft Brewery, is a holiday-themed 5K race and 1-mile walk. The event takes place at ShawneeCraft Brewery and the historic Shawnee Inn and Golf Course. The 5K begins at 10 AM, with the walk starting five minutes later. This marks the event's fourth year. The route guides runners across a bridge onto the golf course, then combines cart paths, fairways, and a wooded trail before concluding at the brewery. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers overall and in age groups, starting with under-14 and progressing through standard decade brackets. All finishers receive a craft beer or soda, along with a beer glass. Those who register early are guaranteed a fleece-lined custom beanie. Live music will be performed after the race into the evening, and food can be purchased at the brewery.

About 5K races in Morgantown

Morgantown Training Notes

Morgantown hosts 41 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the Mon River Rail-Trail System when they want steady Z2 without guessing at turns. South Park runners can point three directions on the rail trail and still get variety. Deckers Creek Trail gets beautiful once you get outside town. Botanical Gardens gives you a crushed gravel loop of about one mile. The rail trail system covers 75 miles and gives you quick dirt time. University High School gives you 3-4 grass miles on the cross country course. Morgantown Running meets every Monday on the rail trail behind the store at 5:30pm. Gene's Run, Run the Rock, Rattlerock Ultra, and Morgantown Marathon keep the calendar honest.

Locals ride base miles on the Mon River Rail Trail and Deckers Creek Trail, then turn toward gravel when the legs are ready. Country Roads Cyclists has been active in north central West Virginia since 1979 and schedules rides every Saturday and Sunday from March 1 to October 31. The club anchors September with a Century Ride of 100 miles. The shorter loop covers 9 km and gains 1,205 m. The longer loop covers 3 km and gains 1,241 m. Coopers Rock, Preston County roads, Dorsey Knob, and Dents Run bring the climbing, with grades that can hit 10-20% or steeper.

April through October is the clean window for riding, racing, and longer run blocks. Spring colors usually peak in late April, and fall foliage usually peaks in October. Summer brings heat and humidity, with July holding a daily mean temperature of 22.5°C and 13.2 days of +30°C highs each year. Randee Mile runs every Wednesday from June to August at 7:00pm, so locals use it for honest intervals. Shaded routes and higher elevations feel better when the valley is heavy. Winter cools the pace, with January averaging -0.1°C, annual snowfall averaging 60.5 cm, and rail-trail miles turning into steadier maintenance work.
