Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

Polio Purple Pinkie Trail Run
THU OCT 1
The 17th annual Polio Purple Pinkie Trail Run at Washoe County's Rancho San Rafael Park. The Rotary Club of Reno Midtown hosts this run/walk to support a good cause and enjoy the trails.
Lions Run
SAT OCT 10
The Lions Run is a race fundraiser held at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City, Nevada. It features a half marathon, 10K, 5K, Family Fun Run, and a unique 0.0 None Run. For the None Run, participants need only a lawn chair; the objective is relaxation, not exertion. The running routes are situated on and near the golf course grounds. Aid stations are available along the courses, and registered runners receive precision timing. This is a new event designed to foster a community atmosphere. Participants receive a swag bag, a race shirt, finish-line photos, and access to a festival following the races.
Paint it Pink 5k Fun Run/Walk
SAT OCT 17
The Paint it Pink 5k Fun Run/Walk is an October 5k held in Gardnerville, Nevada. The race begins and ends at Heritage Park, near the Ezell Street entrance. This event is part of the We Run This Town fun run/walk series. Separate registrations are available for participants aged 11 and older, those aged 10 and younger, and a virtual 5k option that can be completed within two weeks of the live event. The course winds through Gardnerville, incorporating the Martin Slough trail. Participants are encouraged to wear pink. Five dollars from each registration fee is donated to the cancer treatment centers at Carson Valley Health and Carson Tahoe Health. Children aged 10 and under may pre-register at no cost. The virtual option still contributes to the series standings and earns eligibility for its limited edition t-shirt.
Lake Tahoe Marathon Events
SUN OCT 18
The Lake Tahoe Marathon Events span three days around Lake Tahoe, typically in October. The weekend accommodates various participants: runners can race, jog, or walk, drawing thousands of athletes and visitors to the lake annually. Races utilize locations around the lake, such as Homewood on the California side. The events range from the kids' Pumpkin Run to the 72-mile Midnight Express, covering family activities, standard road races, and an extended overnight challenge.
Reno's Wobble Before You Gobble 10K / 5K
MON NOV 23
Reno's Wobble Before You Gobble 10K / 5K is a Thanksgiving Day run in Reno, Nevada, offering 10K and 5K distances. It is scheduled for November, providing a holiday-morning option before the meal suggested by its name. The listing provides basic details: the event is part of a race series, hosted in Reno, and includes separate 10K and 5K categories. The title itself is the main tradition, linking the run directly to Thanksgiving rather than a specific course feature or extensive history.
2025 Carson Valley Turkey Trot Fun Run
THU NOV 26
The Carson Valley Turkey Trot Fun Run begins at Minden Park in downtown Minden, Nevada, on Thanksgiving morning. The primary event is a 5K run/walk scheduled from 8:45 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A Kid's Turkey Dash for ages 1 to 12 takes place just before it at 8:30 a.m. A virtual 5K option is available for those preferring to run or walk on their own schedule. The in-person course winds through a downtown Minden neighborhood in Carson Valley, marking it as a local holiday run distinct from large city events. This is the ninth edition of the event, which benefits the Carson Valley Community Food Closet. The 5K and virtual 5K have a $30 entry fee, while the kids' dash is $20. Participants can receive T-shirts and swag bags as long as supplies are available. If the race does not reach capacity, same-day registration might be offered.

About 5K races in Reno

Reno Training Notes

Reno hosts 13 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the Truckee River Trail when they want flat Z2 from downtown. Rancho San Rafael Regional Park gives you paved paths, dirt paths, and over 100 miles of singletrack. The South Park Loop and Pasture Loop in Rancho San Rafael combine for a 3-mile shakeout. Steamboat Ditch Trail starts on Skyline, and you can run as far as you need to. You can do 7 miles out and back when intervals need dirt. Reno Running Company, Summit Run Club, Mikkeller Running Club Reno, and Eclipse Running keep the week social. Rock Reno Half Marathon, Journal Jog 8K, Silver State, and RRC Trail Series anchor the calendar.

Locals ride the Truckee River Trail and Damonte Ranch Wetlands Trail for easy base miles. Reno Cycling Club, Reno Wheelmen, Great Rides Reno, Reno Gravel, and Reno-Tahoe Pedalers give the scene real depth. Reno Wheelmen fits road riders, mountain riders, gravel grinders, downhill freaks, enduro diehards, time trialers, crit racers, and recreational riders. Mount Rose Highway, Peavine Mountain Trails, Thomas Creek Trail, and Geiger Grade hold the climbs. Geiger Grade runs 7 km and gains 1,191 m. Mt. Rose Highway from Galena Creek Visitor Center to Mt. Rose Summit gives 17 miles round trip and 2,700 ft of elevation gain. The Boca Road Race is the anchor event.

Fall, winter, and spring give Reno the best rhythm when the trails are working and the air feels sharp. Summers are hot and dry, so locals move long runs, Z2 rides, and hill repeats early. Washoe Lake gets high wind speeds, and riders feel that when they point toward open ground. Winter brings moderately cold days, and the temperature reaches or dips below freezing on 122 days annually. Runners stay lower on the Truckee River Trail, Veteran’s Parkway bike path, and Sparks Marina routes. Cyclists keep city miles rolling, then chase dirt and alpine work again when Mount Rose, Peavine Peak, and the foothills settle down.
