The Amstel Gold Race amateur Toerversie, the Tour de Tegel and Limburg's Heuvelland sportives — plus a deep TT and brevet calendar — anchor the cycling year. Running is led by the Dam tot Damloop Amsterdam-Zaandam (50,000+ entries), Rotterdam Marathon and Utrecht Singelloop. The terrain is dead flat across Holland, North Brabant and Friesland, making it an endurance-base mecca rather than a climber's destination — Limburg's Heuvelland and the Vaalserberg are the country's only genuine hills. Wind, not gradient, is the local enemy.
