Nijmegen is a flat-to-rolling Rhine valley town where the Ronde van Nijmegen 165km circuit is the classic regional cycling test, looping through the Gelderse countryside with modest climbs around 80–100m. Runners have the Raamvallei Duomarathon as a fast mixed-terrain event, and the city itself sits on the Waal riverbank with dyke paths ideal for steady runs. Cyclists heading south find the Veluwe hills (up to 110m) within 20km; the terrain is Dutch — expect wind and flat sections — but punctuated by forested climbing zones that define regional racing.
