Belgium is the heart of European road cycling. The Tour of Flanders, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Gent-Wevelgem are spring monuments; sportives like Dwars door het Hageland, Ronde van Vlaanderen Cyclo and the Eddy Merckx Cycling Classic let amateurs ride the same cobbles. Running is more modest by comparison — Antwerp 10 Miles, Brussels Marathon and the Ardennes Megamarsch night-walk events — but the polders and the Forêt de Soignes give clean, flat base-mile training. Belgian sport DNA is on the bike, and gravel and cyclocross are second-nature to anyone who grew up here.
