The relay is the unique element: each team must carry a water-filled Jerry can for the entire 5K. Men's teams carry a 5-gallon can, weighing 42 pounds, while women's teams carry a 3-gallon can, weighing 25 pounds. Runners may hold the can in any manner they prefer, but straps and additional attachments are prohibited. A team's official time is recorded only when its final member crosses the finish line.
