Running in Santa Cruz is mostly flat along the coastal promenade and through the city centre, but the real terrain lies inland where volcanic slopes dominate—the OleoTeide Arico MTB events draw cyclists and trail runners into Tenerife's black-rock interior, with sustained climbs above 1000m elevation. The Cicloturista por el Oro brings road cyclists through the island's agricultural valleys and wine regions, while serious elevation comes north toward Tacoronte and the Infinite Hell Race course, which cuts through volcanic scrubland with short, sharp pitches.
