Fernleigh15
About this race
From Adamstown to Belmont, the Fernleigh15 follows the Fernleigh Track through Dudley, Jewells, Whitebridge, and Redhead, utilizing a former rail line converted into a walking and cycle path. It has the feel of a local fixture: an annual run/walk attracting runners, walkers, and athletes in wheelchairs and racing chairs, with considerable club support. The old railway tunnel under City Road appears early on, and it is understandable why locals refer to it as a "must-do" on the athletics calendar.
The course features a gradual incline to warm up the legs, followed by a long downhill stretch toward the finish, including an out-and-back segment at Cowlishaw Street in Redhead. Road crossings at Dibbs Street, Burwood Road, Cowlishaw Street, and Kalaroo Road are controlled, though the track itself is traffic-free and described as "quite picturesque." A separate junior race for children concludes the event, with spectators encouraging the young participants, lending the day a welcoming community atmosphere instead of solely a focus on times and medals.
