About this race
At Steinhuder Meer, the sprint triathlon in Die Finals allows amateurs to compete on the same lake, roads, and finish areas utilized by Germany’s national elite. This event is part of the larger Die Finals multi-sport gathering, where national champions are determined across numerous sports in Hannover and its surrounding region. The format is straightforward: individual participants swim 750 meters, cycle 18 kilometers, and run 5 kilometers, while relay teams divide these tasks among members. Amateur heats begin early in the morning, prior to the elite competitions, ensuring recreational athletes are integrated into the main event.
The swim takes place in Steinhuder Meer. The cycling segment follows the shoreline, extends to the Hagenburger Canal, crosses a nature reserve, and passes through adjacent towns before looping back toward Steinhude. The run proceeds through Steinhude’s center and then along the promenade, offering spectators a clear view of the action. Competitive age-group athletes also have the opportunity to vie for German sprint-distance championships, though this requires a valid DTU license and German citizenship.
