About this race
The Heidelberg Triathlon begins in the Neckar River near Neckarmünzplatz, positioning athletes in the water before they enter one of Germany’s more challenging city races. This is a summer Olympic-distance triathlon held in Heidelberg, with approximately 1,200 individuals competing individually or in relay teams. While the race is not lengthy by Ironman standards, the Heidelbergman edition has frequently been likened to an Ironman because of its demanding course climbs.
Following the swim, the cycling route ascends towards the Königstuhl, the Odenwald’s highest elevation, featuring around 800 meters of ascent. The run introduces an additional challenge on the Philosophenweg, where participants gain about 160 meters of elevation rather than finishing on flat terrain. Prior to the event, participants have the option of joining free course reconnaissance: practice swims in the Neckar, accompanied bike rides with local clubs, and run assessments with seasoned competitors. The broader event also accommodates younger participants, offering a Junior Triathlon at Tiergartenbad for children and teenagers, along with short Nikar4Kids runs covering 200 or 400 meters.
