Hamburg Training Notes
Hamburg hosts 40 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.
You can check in 4 km without making a big plan. The Stadtpark, Planten un Blomen, Alsterpark, Jenischpark, and Friedhof Ohlsdorf handle easy Z2, short intervals, and quiet base miles. The Grüner Ring gives the long-run crowd about 100 km around the inner city, and the course can begin very quiet and peaceful. Tide Runners and Hamburg Running Meetup Group keep the social side moving. Haspa Marathon Hamburg is the anchor event, with 10K Hamburg Elbe / Kaltehofe, Das Zehntel, Blankeneser Heldenlauf, and Köhlbrandbrückenlauf filling the calendar.
Locals ride the Elbe bike route when they want the city to open up without overthinking the route. Rathausmarkt starts twelve of the fourteen Veloroutes, and Hamburg’s Veloroutes cover 280 kilometres, so base miles are easy to stitch together. RUNDEDREHEN CYCLINGCLUB keeps the week lively with Cappuccino Feierabendrunde, Gravel Gang, Nightride Hamburg City, Montag West Fast, Dienstagstraining, Lunchride, and Mittwochstraining ab Harburg. The nine cycle routes Plus point you out toward the region when a gran fondo mood hits. Waseberg at Blankenese gives you 700 meters with 87 height meters and up to 16% gradient, and Harburger Berge, Fischbeker Heide, and Hasselbrack bring the proper sting.
June, July, and August are Hamburg’s best training months, because the city feels warm, open, and easy to stack with doubles. Summer puts runners around the Alster early, sends cyclists along the Elbe after work, and makes sunny Sunday pacing around busy water sections a jump and jump game. The city centre still works for intervals, but locals push longer Z2 toward Stadtpark, Grüner Ring, Veloroute 14, and the western edge when daylight is generous. Winter changes the rhythm for both sports, with December, January, and February feeling colder and recent snowfall usually showing up only a few days per year.
