Recurring Marathon races near Tokyo

Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

第12回 豊洲のうみべマラソン
SAT OCT 3
The Toyosu Seaside Marathon takes place in a park extending into Tokyo Bay, surrounded by water on most sides. It is part of Japan's autumn running calendar, and this 12th running emphasizes a straightforward, flat course along the bay, avoiding a hilly route. The course follows park paths without significant elevation changes, making it suitable for less experienced runners and those aiming for a consistent pace. Post-race, participants are near Toyosu's shopping and entertainment venues, allowing for an easy extension of the day by the waterfront.

SAT OCT 3
第91回・KITA!SENJU(北千住)マラソン
SUN OCT 4
By the Arakawa in Kitasenju, this 91st running feels like a local race, not a large production. The concept is straightforward: a marathon race that is accessible, affordable, and caters to all levels, from casual joggers to elite athletes. The KITA!SENJU (Adachi) Marathon is designed for runners who prefer to focus on the race itself. A notable competitive feature: top finishers are invited to the next race without charge, providing an incentive for the fastest runners to push hard at the finish.
第5回 荒川エコマラソン(堀切エリア)
SUN OCT 4
The Arakawa Eco-Marathon, held in the Horikiri area, is a low-impact running event focused on environmental protection during competition. The event features a half marathon, a 10K, and a 5K fun run, with the 5K offering both solo and parent-child divisions. The course is flat, making it suitable for runners aiming for personal bests and for beginners seeking a simple first race. Its distinctive eco-friendly rules include using bicycles to lead runners instead of cars, powering the event with solar energy, and reusing race bibs.
10/10(土):ロケットマラソン2026東京大会【5km・10km・ハーフ】
SAT OCT 10
The Rocket Marathon Tokyo is an autumn running event in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, offering 5 km, 10 km, and half marathon distances. It is part of the Rocket Marathon series, which includes an Osaka event later in the month. Runners can choose between a short race, a 10 km effort, or a half marathon as the marathon season begins. The Osaka event exemplifies the series' style: races use chip timing, accommodate beginners to advanced runners, and limit entries to hundreds, not thousands. The Osaka course is located at Yodo River Park’s Nishinakajima District Baseball Field. A past review noted gentle inclines and declines, smooth race-day operations, and ample staff. Elementary school students may enter the 5 km and 10 km races; the half marathon is open to participants from junior high school age.
【東京】THE CHALLENGE RACE 38【日本陸連公認】
SUN OCT 11
In Itabashi-ku, this race, certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations, is built around one idea: speed. The course is described as “Japan’s fastest high-speed course,” with elevation change kept within 2 meters. This leaves little room for error if you are chasing a personal best. The defining feature is the pacing setup: 12 groups start every 10 minutes, each with pacers. This makes 【東京】THE CHALLENGE RACE 38【日本陸連公認】 feel less like a casual event and more like a controlled attempt, with runners sorting themselves by goal and settling into rhythm from the start.
10/11(日):ロケットマラソン2026東京大会【2kmファミリー・30km・フル】
SUN OCT 11
Rocket Marathon Tokyo is an October race meeting based at a special event site by the Shibamata Park flower bed in Katsushika Ward, Tokyo. The main-day program is built around a 2 km family run, a 30 km race, and a full marathon, so it works for children running with adults as well as runners using the day for serious marathon preparation. The event’s theme is a “rocket start” to marathon season, and the distance list fits that idea: 30 km gives trained runners a long test without going all the way to 42.195 km, while the full marathon is there for people ready to race the whole distance. A separate program offers 5 km, 10 km, and half marathon options, and entries use tiered pricing with early discounts, later standard fees, optional advance bib mailing, proxy registration, and payment by card, Amazon Pay, or convenience store.
第1回おにぎりマラソン
SAT OCT 17
ムサコ丸子橋リバーサイドマラソン【10月17日(土)開催】
SAT OCT 17
The Musako Marukobashi Riverside Marathon takes place on the Tamagawa riverbed, a short walk from the Toyoko Line stations at Musashikosugi, Shin-Maruko, and Tamagawa. This accessible riverside race, with low pricing, welcomes a wide range of participants, from those enjoying a relaxed fun run to faster club and elite runners. The venue is the main draw: it is located close to the station exits, with other small events nearby and convenient options for spending time after the finish. RR COFFEE is set up right next to the race area, offering a simple post-race stop before heading home.
第6回小出義雄杯八街落花生マラソン
SUN OCT 18
The Yoshio Koide Cup Yachimata Peanut Marathon takes place in autumn in Yachimata, Chiba, a city known for its peanuts. The main venue is located near Yachimata City Hall and Yachimata Junior High School. The event offers a 10 km race for participants aged 16 and older, as well as 1.5 km races for schoolchildren and a family run for elementary students and their guardians. The course winds through Yachimata’s peanut fields, integrating the local landscape into the event. Guest runner Kaori Yoshida will participate. The race day features a local festival atmosphere with actor and comedian Morohashioka, a Yachimata native, and an appearance by the city’s PR ambassador, Peanut Girl.
【東京荒川】THE CHALLENGE RACE 39|日本陸連公認レース
SAT OCT 24
THE CHALLENGE RACE 39, situated along the Arakawa in Itabashi ward, is structured as a time trial, not a casual event. It is a Japan Association of Athletics Federations certified race, described as "Japan's fastest course" with "within 2m of elevation difference." This course offers no respite from pacing: it is flat, fast, and straightforward. A notable feature is the pacer system, with 12 groups starting every 10 minutes, organizing the day around runners aiming to maintain a target pace to the finish.
第32回大会手賀沼エコマラソン【市民先行枠】
SUN OCT 25
The Teganuma Eco Marathon begins at Kashiwa Furusato Park, sending runners around Lake Teganuma in Chiba. The event starts at 10:00 a.m. and proceeds regardless of weather. The primary race is a half marathon certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations, with an additional 5-mile (approximately 8 km) race also offered. The half marathon course follows a figure-eight path around the lake, with its predominantly flat terrain suitable for consistent pacing. The 5-mile race covers half of this loop. A team division is available for half marathon participants, accommodating groups of three to six runners, with rankings determined by the average net time of the top three finishers from each team. Live music from brass bands and taiko drummers is present along the course.

About Marathon races in Tokyo

Tokyo Base Miles, River Roads

Tokyo hosts 71 Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the Imperial Palace loop when they want simple base miles right in the heart of the city. Tokyo Running Club runs around Kokyogaien on weekday evenings around 7 PM, and the pace stays comfortable enough for chat. Yoyogi Park, Ueno Park, and the Meguro River handle easy days when the city centre feels too tight. Shiba Park gives stair work next to Zozoji, and each stair is quite deep but the rise is low. Tokyo Marathon is the anchor event, and Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon keeps the calendar honest.

Locals ride flat first, then point west when the legs need climbing. The Imperial Palace loop course runs about 5km, Komazawa Olympic Park gives a 2km dedicated course, and the Yamanote Line loop course stretches about 35km for urban Z2. Tama River Cycling Road runs about 50km, and Arakawa Cycling Road runs about 80-90km for steady base miles. Half Fast starts many rides by the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills, while TCC, Tokyo Cycling Club, and Positivo Espresso cover social rides, strong groups, and hills around Tokyo. Mount Takao, Takao & Yabitsu, and the Tama area hold the proper climbs.

Spring and autumn are the clean choice for both sports, with March-May and September-November giving pleasant temperatures and lower rainfall. Summer averages 27°C, so locals move intervals early, keep Z2 honest, and treat riverside shade like a training tool. Annual rainfall averages nearly 1530mm, and wetter summers make the Arakawa River, Tama River, and park loops useful because they are easy to bail from. Winter drops to 1°C, and sporadic snow pushes cyclists toward flatter city loops while runners keep the Palace and parks ticking.
