Styrkeprøven Lillehammer - Oslo

Styrkeprøven is a Norwegian road cycling series centered on a long southbound ride to Oslo. The full Trondheim-Oslo route covers 540 km, starting at Nidarosdomen in Trondheim and finishing at Løren Idrettsanlegg. The series is held annually and now includes five road distances: Trondheim-Oslo, Dombås-Oslo, Lillehammer-Oslo, Gjøvik-Oslo Jentetråkket, and Eidsvoll-Oslo. The Lillehammer-Oslo race is 188 km, offering participants the latter section of the classic Styrkeprøven journey, distinct from the full overnight challenge from Trondheim. The complete course ascends to Hjerkinn, reaching 1,000 meters elevation after 170 km. It proceeds through locations like Dombås, Otta, Kvam, Kvitfjell, Lillehammer, Moelv, Gjøvik, Minnesund, Jessheim, and Økern before concluding in Oslo. Near Mjøsa, the current route utilizes Mjøsbrua on the lake's west side; the previous course followed the east side until road construction necessitated a modification. Styrkeprøven began with 121 participants and at its peak attracted over 5,000 starters from Trondheim. Its origins predate the organized event, as individual cyclists had been attempting to set records for the Trondheim-Oslo distance since 1899.

Furusjoen Rundt MTB

Furusjøen Rundt MTB is the cycling event within the Furusjøen Rundt race series, held at Kvamsfjellet in Rondane, Norway. The overall series includes a winter ski race, Rennet, and an autumn running race, Løpet. Thus, the single event name covers three outdoor sports, not just a dedicated MTB day. The cycling route follows the Rondane mountain region. Local accommodations like cabins, apartments, and rooms are available for participants seeking lodging nearby. The series also provides Trippelen, a multi-discipline option. Furthermore, the ski race offers a qualification chance for the Ski Classics Grand Finale Summit 2 Senja.

About cycling & running in Lillehammer

Lillehammer Training Notes

Running: Locals run from Sentrum when they want easy miles by Mesnaelva, because the river trail goes all the way down to lake Mjøsa. The 2 km pull up to Kroken goes mainly through the woods. The route is 4 km when you want more than a shakeout. Lillehammer Orienteringsklubb and DNT Lillehammer are the names you hear around trail days. Birken Gateløp, Hovemoenløpet, Mesnaelva opp, HalvBirken, and Birkebeinerløpet keep the calendar honest.

Cycling: Locals ride out because Lillehammer has signposted cycle routes on road and off road. Lillehammer Cykleklubb (LCK) is the club name in town, and Sport 1 Lillehammer in the city centre has had that bike-run-ski crowd since 1983. Hafjell Bike Park gives mountain bikers 14 courses over 25 km, while Sjusjøen Mountain Bike Park keeps the singletrack and family trails close. Styrkeprøven Lillehammer - Oslo runs 180 km from Lillehammer toward Oslo. The Mjøsa Round gives road riders 299 km, and the climbs sit toward Fåberg Vestfjell, Fåberg Østfjell, Nordseter, Hafjell, Sjusjøen, Skeikampen, Gålå, and Storfjellet.

Season: Summer belongs to running and cycling here, especially when lake Mjøsa looks its best and the gravel dries out. The frost-free season usually runs 142 days from May 10 to September 30, so locals use that window for Z2, intervals, gran fondo prep, and mountain singletrack. September to May belongs more to skiing, and Lillehammer switches mood fast once winter hits. The Birkebeiner ski race becomes the anchor event, the water freezes and often turns snow-covered, and the bike parks stop being the daily training plan.
