bieg sw dominika

The International St. Dominic's Run is a summer road-racing festival in central Gdańsk, named after Saint Dominic. Its main races are 10 km and 5 km, with the 10 km event tied to the Polish Athletics Association national 10 km championships. The event is part of a wider Running Festival and is considered by its organizers as one of Poland's top running meetings, with Lechia Gdańsk Athletics Club involved in bringing runners to the start line. The race is built around the heart of Gdańsk rather than a remote out-and-back course, making it feel like a city event as much as a sports event. The program includes serious athletes chasing championship places, everyday runners choosing the 5 km or 10 km distance, and families through a free 1200 m prologue. Recent editions have also linked the run with side events such as a Night Duathlon, broadening the weekend beyond a single start.

Maraton Nordic Walking

At the conclusion of Poland’s nordic walking season, Maraton Nordic Walking features participants covering the full 42.195 km distance using poles, not running. This event is part of a sport that also includes 5 km, 10 km, and 20 km races. National-level competitions have been held annually since the first individual Polish championships. Judges evaluate not only finishing times but also adherence to correct nordic walking technique. In Gdańsk, the event took place in Park Nadmorski im. Ronalda Reagana, utilizing a large coastal park rather than a city-road marathon course. Results are typically divided into men’s and women’s open categories, age groups, and sometimes separate disability classifications. The Polish nordic walking landscape is notably decentralized; multiple organizations have hosted national championships because of the absence of a single national sports association. Groups like PFNW, PSNW, PZNW, Nordic Walking Poland, and Barlinek have all influenced the sport's calendar.

rungdn bastiony

#RUNGDN Bastiony is a Gdańsk running event centered on the city’s old bastion area and the Motława River. It is one event in the annual #RUNGDN series, which directs runners to different parts of Gdańsk instead of repeating the same course each time. The main race is approximately 5 km, with Nordic Walking also offered, and shorter youth and family runs from 0.1 km to 0.8 km provide separate starts for children. The route follows the Motława and passes Bastions Wilk, Wyskok, Żubr, and Królik, connecting the course to a specific area of Gdańsk rather than a generic park loop. Starts are limited to 75 people each, and timing is chip-based, with results calculated by net time. Runners have 1.5 hours to complete the course, making the 5 km accessible for walkers and beginners as well as regular runners. Finishers receive water and a recovery meal, winners in the open categories are awarded, and all finishers get an item at the end.

About cycling & running in Gdańsk

Gdańsk By Sea And Saddle

Running: Locals run between the sea and parks, and Reagan Park is the easy call for Z2 or a loose Saturday shakeout. Reagan Park has a 5 km lap for soft legs. The lap is 5 km, and the flow around the Motława keeps the city centre in your peripheral vision. The lap has sand, roots, and natural obstacles. Gdansk Run meets every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, and Energa Gdańsk Marathon 2026, Bieg Sw Dominika, Rungdn Hevelianum, and Rungdn Bastiony are the anchor races.

Cycling: Locals ride the coast first, because the coastal cycling route from Gdańsk to Gdynia gives about 25 km of steady base miles beside Gdańsk Bay. The Sopot to Gdańsk section is over 15 km, and Tri-City cyclists use it for both training and getting around. The city has almost 600 km of bike paths, so Main Gdańsk, Low Town, Oliwa, and Sobieszewo Island all fit easy spins. The Oliwa Valley Route runs about 24 km and brings the better climbing feel. Góra Gradowa gives the sharp city punch for intervals. PolandByLocals rides from Chlebnicka 19/20, and Rowerowy Maraton Wisła works as the anchor event.

Season: July and August are the warmest months, and locals use the long light for beach runs, coastal spins, and patient Z2 before the showers roll through. Summer in Gdańsk brings plenty of sunshine with heavy rain mixed in, while the yearly 1,700 hours of sunshine still make the city feel rideable and runnable. Spring starts in March cold and windy, then turns more useful for base miles. Autumn starts warm and usually sunny in September, then November gets cold, damp, and foggy. Winter lasts from December to March, and mean temperatures in January and February sit near or below 0°C, so locals move toward shorter loops, firmer plans, and snow-ready shoes or tyres.
