Helsingborg Marathon & HOKA Helsingborg Half Marathon

Helsingborg Marathon is a 42.195 km road race around Helsingborg, Sweden, with the HOKA Helsingborg Half Marathon sharing the same central race hub. Both start at Sundstorget near Dunkers kulturhus and finish at Gröningen, by the water. The marathon attracts about 1,000 runners, making it Sweden's second-largest marathon, and the course is officially measured by Swedish Athletics Federation measurers. The event also includes a relay and Bama Kids Run, whose children’s course uses the final stretch and the same finish line. The marathon runs one counter-clockwise lap through the city, mostly on asphalt, with the first seven kilometers following the sea and harbor before passing Råå small boat harbor. Runners then move through Ättekulla nature reserve, Landborgspromenaden, Ramlösa Brunnspark, Jordbodalen, Fredriksdal, Olympia football arena, Helsingborg Arena, and Pålsjö skog, with timing checkpoints near Ättekulla, Fredriksdal, and Pålsjö. The half marathon uses the same start and finish and overlaps with large parts of the marathon route. A local tradition is the open test runs with pacer groups, race-day sports drink, and an After Run at the finish with grilled sausages, non-alcoholic beer, and mineral water.

Trans Scania

Trans Scania is a 234.2 km trail race held in Bjärred, on the coast of Skåne County in southern Sweden. It takes place in early August, beginning and ending by the sea, with 4,300 metres of elevation gain over a long point-to-point course. The race is part of the UTMB Index, allowing finishers to earn points in that system. The route traces the coastline before heading inland through natural areas and forests, aiming to traverse this region of Sweden from one end to the other. This ultra is designed for runners seeking a lengthy, exposed challenge spanning day and night, rather than a brief mountain race. Sea, woodland, and endurance are the core elements. The organisers describe its scale with the phrase, “A distance that will surely make you finish in Trans.”

About cycling & running in Helsingborg

Helsingborg Coastal Training

Running: Locals run the coast, Pålsjö forest, Jordbodalen, Ramlösa Brunnspark, Gröningen, and the Canal + Lakes loop when they want easy base miles. Runners Club meets at 18:00 on Mondays and Thursdays at RC-toan, Pålsjö skog, and Runners Club meets at 09:00 on Saturdays for the long run. Helsingborg Marathon gives the city its anchor day, with Marathon d'Helsingborg and HOKA Helsingborg Half Marathon on the same orbit. The marathon course runs 42 195 meters and gains around 370 meters. Lindahls Helsingborg Night Run keeps Gröningen lively when legs want something sharper.

Cycling: Locals ride the Öresund coast when the day calls for Z2 and a laid-back spin. The Sofiero Loop and the Helsingborg-Mölle Ride are the obvious local picks, and Kattegattleden starts or ends outside Helsingborg Central Station at Knutpunkten. Kattegattleden runs 390 km and gives riders proper gran fondo energy without leaving the signed national cycle path. The Kullaberg Peninsula holds the bigger efforts, and Tinkarpsbacken puts a real sting into local legs. Örestads Allianstempo med Skåne/Blekinge and Landskrona CK:s Allianstempo give the faster crowd a clean anchor for tempo work.

Season: Spring to fall is the best block, and Kattegattleden is guaranteed open from April 15 to October 15. Summers arrive earlier here than in most of Sweden, and locals use the long warm stretch for coast rides, long runs, intervals, and steady base miles. The city centre stays useful because the marathon starts outside Dunkers Kulturhus and finishes along the ocean on Gröningen. Winter stays mild for this latitude, and January and February average just above freezing. Runners keep Pålsjö skog in the mix, while riders turn the coast into steadier Z2 days.
