About cycling & running in Greenville

Greenville Base Miles And Mountain Work

Running: Locals use the Swamp Rabbit Trail for steady Z2, progression runs, and easy meetups from Downtown toward Travelers Rest. The Downtown to Travelers Rest section runs 11 miles one-way on paved trail with rubberized sections. Falls Park Loop delivers 3-5 miles when the city centre needs something short and sharp. Paris Mountain State Park gives runners 15 miles of trails, and Brissy Ridge to Summit gains 700 feet over 4 miles. Paris Mountain State Park has 6 miles of natural surface trails that run smoother than the technical sections. Alta Vista and Botany Woods bring sustained climbs and quad-burning descents. Greenville Track Club anchors the week with Wednesday Track Workouts at 6:00 pm at Greenville High School Track, plus Reedy River Run, Spinx Run Fest, and the Paris Mountain Trail races.

Cycling: Locals ride easygoing bike paths like the Swamp Rabbit Trail and Cleveland Park Loop when the legs need base miles. Greenville Spinners put real structure on the week with SCTAC 26 mi Yellow and SCTAC 33 mi Green Tuesday rides. The SCTAC Yellow ride is a 7 km route with 632 m of elevation. The SCTAC Green ride covers 7 km in Greenville County and climbs 568 m on paved roads. 3 km. Paris Mountain State Park and Saluda Grade hold the bigger efforts. Rotary Club of Greenville keeps the 2026 Indian Valley Century Ride as the cycling anchor event.

Season: Locals treat the calendar as almost year-round, with spring track work, summer all-comers meets, fall cross country, and December road racing. Greenville's summer humidity demands route adjustments, so locals prioritize shaded paths and run before 7 AM or after 7 PM. The Swamp Rabbit Trail stays useful for runners and riders when heat makes intervals feel heavy. Paris Mountain still works for trail days, but the technical descent demands focus and strong ankles. The Swamp Rabbit Trail gets priority clearing and salting, making it the safest option after winter weather. Winter changes the rhythm toward steady Z2, safer pavement, and measured climbs instead of hero workouts.
