Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

Sekani (ish) Trail Run
SUN OCT 4
The Sekani-ish Trail Run is a fall dirt-trail event in Spokane, Washington, based around Minnehaha Park and Camp Sekani Park. It offers a 5k, a 10k, and a free 1k kids' run, with runners, hikers, walkers, families, and first-time trail runners all fitting into the format. The courses stay on dirt trails, and the 10k climbs about 1,000 feet. The route goes over Beacon Hill, with views of the Spokane River and the Spokane skyline, and the event has used all-dirt courses since 2009. It is organized entirely by volunteers, finishers receive commemorative shirts, and proceeds support Franklin Elementary School's APPLE Program.
Hayden Lake Marathon
SAT OCT 10
The Hayden Lake Marathon centers on Hayden Lake, offering a full marathon that begins at 7:30 a.m. Pacific, followed by shorter races. The event features a marathon, half marathon, quarter marathon, 5K, Kids Fun Run, and a virtual run, catering to dedicated distance runners, families, and beginners. The courses navigate around the lake and through pine forests. The marathon is open to participants aged 13 to 99. The half marathon, quarter marathon, and virtual run are for ages 1 to 99. The Kids Fun Run is for ages 1 to 12, and the 5K has a free option for children 12 and under. Hayden Lake is part of a regional race series including the CDA Marathon, Windermere Marathon, and Mt. Spokane Trail Run, with a discount for participants entering three races.
Monster Dash 5K and Kids' Fun Run
SAT OCT 24
Monster Dash is a Halloween 5K and kids' race in Manito Park on Spokane's South Hill, with costumes encouraged from the start. The 5K begins at 10:00am and uses chip timing, while the Kids' Fun Run follows at 11:00am with 1-mile, half-mile, and quarter-mile options. The day is structured so families can participate in both races: parents often run the 5K first, then join their children for the Fun Run, and adults can walk or run beside kids for the entire course. Children receive candy goodie bags at the finish, and all race proceeds benefit Active4Youth, a local nonprofit that provides free elementary running programs in Spokane-area school districts and addresses childhood obesity through after-school activity.
Haunted 5K, 10K, & 13.1M at Spokane, WA
SAT OCT 24
The Haunted 5K, 10K, and 13.1M is a Halloween-season running event in Spokane, Washington, offering three distances: 5K, 10K, and half marathon. The race begins in the morning at the Ben-Burr trail entrance. Parking is available at the nearby Disc Golf Course. Registration is required in advance via RunSignup, as there is no race-day sign-up. Packet pickup occurs during a short pre-race window. The courses are straightforward, repeat out-and-backs, presenting a steady trail race rather than a point-to-point course. The 5K completes a short out-and-back twice, the 10K completes it four times, and the half marathon uses a longer out-and-back repeated six times. All participants have a 3 hour 30 minute time limit. The half marathon is particularly suited for runners who maintain a consistent pace over multiple laps.
Halloween Hustle
SUN OCT 25
The Halloween Hustle is a Halloween-themed race series held on a lakeside course in Idaho. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes. The event includes a Haunted Half Marathon, Terrifying 10K, Freaky 5K, and a Vicious Virtual Run, along with two children's races for ages 1 to 12. The in-person races offer standard distances for adults. The day maintains a playful atmosphere with candy and costumes along the course. The Freaky 5K is free for the first 25 children, and the Goblin Kids Fun Run is free for the first 75 registrants, integrating families directly into the event.
Wild Moose Chase
SUN NOV 8
Wild Moose Chase is a trail race held on the Riverside State Park trails near Spokane. It offers 25K, 10K, and 5K distances, along with a Kids Fun Run. The race takes place in the fall, and a virtual option is available for participants outside the immediate area. The in-person courses follow park trails, providing views of the Spokane River and autumn foliage. This event is a local favorite among Spokane runners and has been recognized as a top trail run in the Pacific Northwest. It also benefits students in Eastern Washington University's Department of Physical Therapy.
Gobbler 5K, 10K, & 13.1M, Spokane, WA (48)
SAT NOV 28
The Gobbler 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon, a Thanksgiving-themed US Road Running event in Spokane, Washington, begins all three distances at 8:30 AM. Participants park at the Disc Golf Course and begin at the Ben-Burr Trail entrance. The process is straightforward: register via RunSignup, collect your packet just before the race, and select either the 5K, 10K, or half marathon. The course consists of repeated out-and-back sections. The 5K covers its segment twice, the 10K covers it four times, and the half marathon covers its longer out-and-back six times, all within a 3-hour-30-minute time limit. This event adheres to the US Road Running format, offering series points, awards, finisher medals, and a costume tradition that complements the Gobbler theme.
Santa Run
SAT DEC 12
The Silicon Valley Santa Run is a holiday 5K run/walk in San Jose focused on costumes, families, and Christmas in the Park. Participants can wear Santa, elf, reindeer, or other holiday character costumes, making the event resemble a moving holiday parade more than a typical road race. The main 5K course is flat and fast, and the series also features a Kids Reindeer Dash for children ages 2 to 7. Both the 5K and the kids’ dash are offered in person or virtually. The 5K begins on Santa Clara Street and concludes at Christmas in the Park, allowing participants to enter the displays, decorations, and booths immediately after the race. The event supports Christmas in the Park, directly linking the finish line to its supported cause. Each 5K participant receives a holiday long-sleeve tech shirt, an ornament-style finisher medal, and a timed bib. Children in the Reindeer Dash receive a festive shirt, bib, ornament-style medal, and milk and cookies at the finish.

About 5K races in Spokane-Spokane Valley

Spokane Miles, Dirt, and Climbing

Spokane-Spokane Valley hosts 21 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run Spokane from pavement to singletrack without making a big production of it. Riverfront Park puts you straight onto the 37-mile Centennial Trail, and the trail keeps rolling more than 20 miles into Idaho. Riverside State Park gives runners 9,200 acres, Trail 25, and Bowl and Pitcher when Z2 needs dirt. South Hill Bluff lets you easily get 8 miles in, while Antoine Peak gives a 9-mile round trip with 732 feet of gain. Manito Running Club, Sunday Slugs, Kendall Yards Running Club, SoHi Running Club, and BRRC keep the week full. The Spokane Marathon, Windermere Marathon, BRRC Sundae Sunday, and Happy Girls Run Spokane are the anchor events.

Locals ride the Spokane River Centennial Trail for steady base miles, then point the bike toward Riverside State Park, Green Bluff, Cheney, and Spokane Valley gravel. Spokane Bicycle Club runs 7 regular group rides per week from mid-March through mid-November, and Wheel Sport, North Division Bicycle Shop, Baddlands Cycling Club, and Evergreen East all show up in the scene. Baddlands Cycling Club brings the 2026 Twilight Series at QLISPE RACEWAY PARK with electric energy and pack-race legs. The climbs sit on Mt. Spokane, Antoine Peak, Mica Peak, Beacon Blackout, and Lets Climb a Mountain. Lilac Century, Climb for The Cure 2026, and The Double Down Hoe Down are the anchor rides.

Spring and fall are the cleanest training blocks here, with April and May bringing lilacs and September and October giving strong running weather. Summer can exceed 100 degrees, so locals stack miles early, keep intervals short, and save long Z2 rides for cooler windows. Winter puts Spokane below freezing and snowy often enough that runners should be prepared to be trudging through some snow. Bike commuters use layers, good tires, fenders, and often studded tires or gravel bikes when snow and ice show up. Spokane Bicycle Club moves to Zwift in winter months, while local run clubs still run 52 weeks a year come rain or shine.
