Dog Days Run Walk

The Dog Days Run Walk begins at 7:30 a.m. in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, allowing participants and their dogs to start before the day's heat intensifies. The event provides 5-mile, 5K, and 2-mile race options, in addition to a virtual participation choice. All in-person courses commence and conclude at Kamper Park. Participants may run or walk with or without a dog. The race benefits the Alzheimer’s Association's efforts in Mississippi, including training and education related to Jill’s Law. The shorter, dog-friendly courses navigate the Avenues area adjacent to Kamper Park. The 5-mile course is designated for human participants only. Dog Days is organized by Hub City Service Dogs, a volunteer group that supplies service dogs. This event has served as their primary fundraiser for years, generating over $200,000 for individuals requiring a service dog. The finish line area features finisher medals, refreshments, live music, appearances by the mascot Hero, top dog awards, and a Run-By Dog Pageant. During the pageant, costumed dogs are evaluated by local celebrity judges, with judging based on the runner's bib number.

Hattiesburg Half Marathon, 10k, and 5K

The Hattiesburg Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K begins and ends on Forrest Street in downtown Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The start/finish line is located at 201 Forrest Street, near the Saenger Theatre. This annual springtime race series offers three running distances, a 5K walk, and charity entry options. This allows participants to engage in various activities on the same morning, accommodating half-marathon runners, shorter-distance racers, walkers, and individuals fundraising for local causes. The course is certified and flat, providing a straightforward path for runners seeking a challenging effort without significant elevation changes. The route offers a comprehensive tour of Hattiesburg, avoiding repetitive loops. It crosses downtown, extends toward the Avenues, circles the Hattiesburg Zoo, incorporates a portion of The University of Southern Mississippi campus, and utilizes a section of the Longleaf Trace before concluding. Pine Belt nonprofits are integrated into the race: charity runners fundraise for participating organizations, and each nonprofit staffs a mile marker, offering encouragement as runners pass. The event has been held for at least fourteen editions, attracts participants from various locations to the Hub City, and has previously sold out.

ハッティーズバーグの練習メモ

ランニング： ハッティーズバーグのランナーにとって、Longleaf Traceは定番だよね。Prentissからハッティーズバーグまで44-mileの舗装されたレールトレイルで、湿地帯とか小さな湖、松林の中を通ってるんだ。地元のランクラブ、Pine Belt PacersがTraceでいつも練習してるよ。短くて慣れたコースがいいなら、USM loopでキャンパスを走るのもあり。Traceは53 kmで獲得標高38 m。もっと頑張りたい日は、46 kmで獲得標高104 mのコースもいける。3月上旬のHattiesburg Marathonがメインイベントで、他にもGobbler 5K、Medal Madness、Jingle All the Wayとか、イベントはたくさんあるよ。

サイクリング： Longleaf Traceはサイクリングでもよく使われるよ。地元の人たちはZ2、インターバル、あと軽い仲間とのライドとかで使ってる。Hub City Veloは、サイクリングシーズン中に定期的な練習ライド、レクリエーションライド、クラブレースをやってて、ライダー、レーサー、通勤者みんなが集まる場になってる。Jed’s Perfect Endurance Bikesもトレイルでグループライドを主催してて、時には60人以上集まることもあるんだ。0 mi. Candle Street、Rifle Range Road、FS369/369E、Forest road、それにSurfboard Cemetary to Redhillまでのルートは、グラベルライドにちょうどいい感じ。このルートは82 kmで獲得標高41 mだよ。

シーズン： 3月上旬がベストシーズンだね。Hattiesburg Marathonがあるし、気候もランナーやライダーが夏の暑さに悩まされずにペースを維持できることが多いから。地元の人たちは暑くて湿気の多い夏でも練習するけど、賢い人は早朝にスタートしたり、Traceの松林の影を選んだり、Z2で抑えめに走ったりしてるよ。Longleaf Traceは、ルートがシンプルでみんなで走りやすいから、夏でも気持ちいいんだ。短くて穏やかな冬は、練習計画より気分が変わるくらいかな。ランナーはUSM loop、University Heights、Traceを走り続けるし、サイクリストはベースマイルを維持するし、雪が降ることはほとんどないからね。
