About this race
The Schwarzachtal Triathlon takes place in August around the Schwarzachtalseen, near Ertingen in Oberschwaben, Baden-Wurttemberg. It focuses on a short, accessible triathlon format instead of long-distance racing. Adults compete in a sprint-style Jedermann event: a 500 m swim, approximately 27-30 km by bike, and a 5.2 km run. This same adult distance is also available as a relay, allowing a swimmer, cyclist, and runner to share the race. Younger athletes have their own start, with shorter youth distances: about 350 m swimming, 10-13.7 km cycling, and roughly 2.4-2.5 km running.
The race is organized by Triathlonverein Schwarzachtalseen, attracting mostly local and regional athletes rather than a small elite-only field. The adult individual race is planned for around 450 starters, with additional participants in relays and a smaller youth field. Recent editions saw approximately 438-440 athletes and about 2,000 spectators, creating a community sports day atmosphere at the lake area with competitive racing at the front. The course utilizes the terrain surrounding the Schwarzachtalseen for all three disciplines: the swim is in the lake, the bike route rolls through the Ertingen area, and the run concludes near the event site.
