Running: Locals run the Promenade des Anglais first, because that whole stretch is flat and has a paved path with the sea beside it. The Promenade works for Z2, intervals, and a quick shakeout when it is not too crowded. Nice to Villefranche-sur-Mer gives longer base miles when the Prom feels short, and Cap Ferrat makes a clean loop before the train back from Beaulieu. Mount Boron and Mount Alban add bite near town, and Eze gives the rough hill challenge. OGC Nice is the club name everyone knows, while Prom'classic, La Verticale du Château de Nice, Nice Côte d'Azur by UTMB®, and Semi-Marathon International de Nice anchor the calendar.
Cycling: Locals ride from the port because the climbs start fast and the Alpes-Maritimes give you proper work. Café du Cycliste at 16 Quai des Docks is the easy meeting point, and its weekly rides keep the bunch moving. The Promenade des Anglais gives an excellent bike path for easy spins, but the real riding sits north, east, and west in the Alpine foothills that rise quickly from the coast. Col de Vence, Col de la Madone, Col de Braus, Col de Turini, and Col d'Eze are the names you hear over coffee. Paris-Nice, Paris Nice Challenge, Nice Ironman, and the Nice to Nice Loop give the city its anchor-event feel.
Season: Spring, fall, and winter are the best cycling months, and September is the sweet Promenade month for running outside midday. Summer stays warm to hot, dry, and sunny, so locals go early, keep the Prom simple, and save Eze or Mount Boron for cooler hours. July usually records only one or two days with measurable rainfall, which keeps base miles predictable. Winter brings mild days, cool nights, and variable weather, but frost is unusual and snowfalls are rare. Most roads stay open year-round, and climbs up to around 1,000 meters remain accessible, so both runners and riders keep training instead of hibernating.
