Blue Mountain TrailRun begins at First Camp Ånnaboda in Kilsbergen, offering runners four course lengths: 21 km, 15 km, 10 km, and 6 km. The event combines natural scenery with technical running, featuring routes that incorporate Bergslagsleden, sections of local mountain bike trails, forest paths, lake crossings, scenic overlooks, and sufficient elevation changes to challenge participants on the longer distances. The 21 km race presents a bonus: a 5000 kr reward for anyone who breaks the existing course records of 1:16:41 for men and 1:29:16 for women. The event caters to families and spectators, providing bib collection, electronic timing, aid stations, first aid, changing facilities, food vendors, and access to swimming at Södra Ånnabosjön post-race.
Running: Locals run the park side first, with Rynningeviken, Oset and Rynningeviken Nature Reserve, Hoppbacken forest, and Gallabergssjön doing the everyday work. Örebro parkrun gives you a free timed 5km around Rynningeviken at 9:30 every Saturday, so it works as a tidy Z2 check or a sharp hit before coffee. Hoppbacken forest is a popular running route when you want shade, dirt, and a mental reset. GIH Örebro IF, Örebro SK, and the local race calendar keep people moving. Å-stadsloppet, Vårruset, Blodomloppet Örebro, Gallaberget Trailrun, and Silverleden Ultra are the anchor events.
Cycling: Locals ride out from the city centre on asphalted paths, gravel roads, and the occasional trail, then pick the day by wind and legs. Hemfjärden runt takes you 42km around the western part of Lake Hjälmaren, while the Katrinelund Trail runs 28km from Örebro Castle to Katrinelunds Gästgiveri and Sjökrog. Tysslingen loop starts at Karlslund Manor and gives you 32 flat kilometers for base miles. Kilsbergen sits north when you want the climbs, and Bergslagen brings the harder terrain. Örebro Gravel and Around Lake Hjälmaren bicycle race are the big bike targets, with gran fondo energy and gravel legs.
Season: May, June, July, August, September, and October give Örebro its best training block, with enough light for intervals, longer rides, and easy doubles. July usually sits around 22-24°C for average highs, and summer sometimes pushes above 25°C while 30°C stays rare. Locals use Rynningeviken and Svartån for steady running, and riders take the southern shores of Hemfjärden and Mellanfjärden when the day feels open. Winter changes the rhythm fast. January averages highs of -2°C and lows of -8°C, so runners use lit jogging trails and cyclists treat a chilly ride as a win.
