Recurring 5K races near Alexandria

Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

5k & 1 mile Fun Run
SAT OCT 10
The Rocket Run begins and ends at Mary Lin Elementary School in Atlanta. A 5K run/walk starts at 8:00 AM, followed by a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk at 9:00 AM. Participants can opt for the 5K, the 1 Mile, or the Rocket Challenge, which includes both distances. The event accommodates walkers and families, with a 59-minute time limit for the 5K and a 30-minute limit for the mile. The 5K route follows Candler Park neighborhood streets and the Freedom Park Path before looping back to the school. Children under 8 may participate in the 5K when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Pets are not permitted on the course. All funds raised benefit the Mary Lin Elementary PTO. Early registrants will receive limited-edition Rocket Run shirts, subject to availability of stock and sizes.
LV5K & 1 Mile Walk/Run
SAT MAR 27
The LV5K & 1 Mile Walk/Run begins and ends at the Alexandria Senior High School football field in Alexandria, Louisiana. Participants can select the 1-mile event or the 5K. The 1-mile starts first in the morning, followed shortly by the 5K. This event commemorates Lauren Vaughn and others lost to impaired driving, giving the day a distinct memorial purpose beyond a typical local road race. The funds raised benefit the Lauren Vaughn Memorial Scholarship at NSU, assisting students in the Accelerated BS to BSN nursing program. In-person competitors are eligible for overall male and female awards, as well as age-group awards for both distances. Friends and family from out of town can participate virtually; this option does not include a shirt but still contributes to the scholarship and offers virtual acknowledgments for bragging rights. Packets can be picked up before race day at Little Cakes with Big Attitude, or on race day prior to the start times.

About 5K races in Alexandria

Alexandria Training Notes

Alexandria hosts 5 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Alexandria runners keep things simple around the Red River, England Airpark, and the old Versailles corridor. The Versailles corridor still works for base miles, and locals can peel off into a number of neighbors for added distance. The AEX Loop gives runners 9 miles from the community center through England Airpark. The AEX Loop is 45 km and gains 105 m when you want steady work. Locals also use Buhlow Recreational Park and Bringhurst Field for easy laps. LSUA 5K, Freedom Run 5K & Fun Run, LV5K & 1 Mile Walk/Run, Ruck to Remember, and Loup Garou Trail Run give the calendar its anchor races.

Alexandria riders get plenty of flat Z2, with 28 tracked routes and 1,305 km of mapped riding around town. The AEX Loop works for quick spins, jog-bike days, and easy intervals without overthinking it. The AEX Loop is 8 km and gains 131 m. One route covers 1 km with 122 m of ascent. One route is 3 km and 412 m of gain when legs need pressure. Kisatchie National Forest is where the hills, valleys, and bends live. Le Tour de Bayou - 2026 is the road anchor.

Spring gives Alexandria runners and riders the cleanest training window, though locals keep one eye on the sky because thunder days are part of life here. Summer brings consistent heat and humidity, so runners start early, cyclists stack bottles, and most serious work becomes short intervals or patient Z2. Winter stays mild enough for base miles, long rides, and steady marathon work. Cold snaps still show up, and the first freeze usually lands in early to mid November while the last freeze usually clears in early to mid March. Snowfall stays rare, so the season rarely shuts down training.
