Memphis In May Triathlon Weekend

The Memphis In May Triathlon Weekend takes place at Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, Tennessee, with the race headquarters at Hyde Lake. The weekend includes an Olympic triathlon featuring a 1.5K swim, 40K bike, and 10K run, and a Sprint triathlon with a 750-meter swim, 13-mile bike, and 3-mile run. It is held in May and is open to athletes 12 years and older. Individual entries, relay teams, AquaBike options, and Athena and Clydesdale divisions are available for both main distances. The Olympic race begins with a swim in Hyde Lake. Cyclists then travel around Shelby Farms Park and adjacent roads, concluding with a run on the park’s paved trails. Packet pickup and race activities are also located at Hyde Lake, making it the starting point and the initial segment of the course. Participants who finish will receive a custom shirt, medal, and a post-race meal. BBSC Endurance Sports is the organizer. The Olympic triathlon has a long history, with over forty editions, and was previously held at Edmond Orgill Park in Millington.

Memorial Day Freedom Run 5K/10K/13.1 NYC

The Memorial Day Freedom Run in New York is a small-group race on the Hudson River Trails, offering 5K, 10K, and half marathon distances, along with a Family 1 Mile Fun Run. The event centers on Memorial Day remembrance, honoring those who sacrificed for freedom, with organizers dedicating each mile as a tribute to their service. Participants can select a virtual option or an eco-registration that omits the shirt. Waves are capped and filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and the in-person race may sell out as each wave reaches its capacity. The course follows the Hudson River side of Manhattan; the precise map will be emailed to participants. This is a run-or-walk event suitable for all paces and ages, requiring a guardian for participants under 18. Timing is kept relaxed: there are no chips, and runners may track their own time using an app or request assistance from coordinators. Race bibs are distributed on race day, while shirts and other merchandise are mailed rather than collected at packet pickup. Finishers receive a medal, a towel or giveaway, and online results can include a completion certificate. Virtual runners may complete their miles anywhere and submit results to receive a medal. The charitable aspect extends beyond race day, with $1 donated to a partner charity for every mile logged.

About cycling & running in Memphis

Memphis Training Notes

Running: Locals start easy runs on the Shelby Farms Greenline when they want steady Z2 without much thinking. The Greenline gives you 65 miles of paved railtrail for base miles. The Wolf River Greenway has 14 miles open on a planned 26-mile route, and it works for longer out-and-back days. The Wolf River Greenway also has a 5-mile winding and shaded shared-use path. Big River Crossing turns a run into a skyline hit across the Mississippi River. The Great American River Run is the anchor event. Mother's Day Run Memphis and Golden Harvest Half Marathon & 5k/10k - Memphis keep the calendar full. The Best Races and local running clubs give newcomers a place to plug in.

Cycling: Cyclists use the Greenline, Wolf River Greenway, and Big River Crossing for everyday miles. Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club brings group rides, ride leaders, and the Bluff City Training Team. Great Rides Memphis and Major Taylor Memphis keep the road scene moving. The 79-mile loop gets into the rotation. Shelby Farms has 10-mile singletrack with ramps, jumps, and a secluded BMX park. The climbs sit north, east, and southeast more than downtown. The climbs run about 4 km with 430 m elevation. The Delta Epic handles the gravel anchor vibe.

Season: Spring is arguably the best time to ride and run here. Memphis gets average spring temperatures in the 60s and 70s, longer days, warmer air, and only the slightest amount of humidity. April brings pollen, so locals adjust intervals and long runs around it. Summer means June, July, and August bring heat and humidity, so early starts matter for both bikes and shoes. Fall can work well when the edge comes off the air. Winter changes the rhythm, and the majority of riders are usually exiled to the stationary bike or the gym while runners lean on shorter loops and steady miles.
