Montgomery Jubilee Runs
The Montgomery Jubilee Runs begin and end at historic Old Alabama Town in Montgomery, Alabama. The event features an 8K race on a USATF-certified course and the Peggy Lanier 2-Mile run/walk. Organized by the River Region Runners' Club and held in May, the 8K also serves as the Road Runners Club of America’s Alabama 8K State Championship. This designation attracts competitive racers alongside walkers and local participants. Both races use chip timing, with awards presented across numerous age groups, from young children to participants in their seventies. The routes traverse historic downtown Montgomery and adjacent neighborhoods before descending back into Old Alabama Town for the finish. Participants travel from the River Region, other Alabama areas, and beyond. Previous Jubilee Runs have resulted in several state running records. The 2-mile race commemorates Peggy McLendon Lanier, adding a community focus to the day alongside the championship event. Now in its 47th year, the series raises funds for the Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches.
