Running here means the Salève plateau dominates—a 1000m limestone ridge just south of Annemasse with steep forest trails and lake views over Geneva to the Alps. The city sits at 380m elevation on the Swiss border; most organized running stays flat along the Arve river valley and local parks, but serious runners climb the Salève's rocky switchbacks for hill work. Cyclists treat this as gateway terrain to the Alps: the Thonon Cycling Race and La Faucigny-Glières Cyclosportive route riders through rolling pre-Alpine farmland and small lakes 20–40km south and east, with sustained 5–8% grades and views toward Mont-Blanc from higher sections.
