Arnhem

Arnhem is a cycling hub on the Rhine's south bank, surrounded by the forested Veluwe plateau that draws serious mountain bikers to the Dutch Masters of MTB 2024 and shorter gravel loops through sand dunes and heathland. Running is notably hilly for the Netherlands—the city's undulating terrain around the river gorge makes it uncommon ground, and the Raamvallei Duomarathon uses these same ridge-and-valley routes. Road cyclists favour the flatter Ronde van Nijmegen sportive (165km) which rolls through the Gelderland countryside to the east.
