The nearby Saxon Switzerland (Sächsische Schweiz) sandstone hills 20km south offer steep terrain for trail runners tackling the AdventureWalk Sächsische Schweiz. Cyclists have it even better: the Elbe valley provides a nearly traffic-free 200km route east toward Prague, while the 1. Röder-Elbe-Radmarathon exploits this gentle corridor, and more serious climbs into the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) west of the city give the ERZTALER RTF its teeth.
