Triman

Triman is a Greek triathlon race series with several formats held in May, August, and September. The primary Triman race follows a half-distance format: a 1,900m swim, 90km bike ride, and 21.1km run. Shorter events include Trifast, featuring a 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run, and the Super Sprint Battle, which is a 200m swim, 5km bike, and 2km run. The series also offers races for single-discipline athletes or those seeking a more challenging event. Triswim provides 1,000m, 2,500m, and 5,000m swim distances. Nightswim offers 2,000m and 4,000m swim options. Nightrun is a 5,000m run, and the ultimate triathlon challenge is Triman226: a 3,800m swim, 180km bike ride, and a full marathon. The Olympos-X races combine long swim and bike legs with trail running; the main Olympos-X includes a 4,000m swim, 191km bike, and 40km trail run. Triman also awards cash prizes, with €6,000 offered at the May race, and sells official merchandise.

TRIMAN 226 Full-Iron Triathlon

TRIMAN 226 is a full-iron triathlon held at Olympic Beach in Katerini, with Mount Olympus situated inland from the race base. The main event commences on Sunday morning, following the standard long-distance triathlon format: a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km bike ride, and a 42.195 km run. Participants can compete individually or as a relay team. The field is limited to 100 participants, making it a select, controlled race rather than a large-scale event. The swim starts from the beach and consists of four loops, keeping athletes near the shore before transitioning to the bike leg. The cycling course involves a 7.6 km exit, four laps of 41.2 km each, and a 7.6 km return, with traffic management in place for the exit and lap sections. The run comprises six loops of 7.03 km, allowing spectators to see participants multiple times during the marathon. The same race day also features the shorter TRIMAN 51.5 and a children's cycling and running event for primary and secondary school students. The weekend's activities include a required briefing, a seminar, a pasta meal, finisher medals, shirts, bottles, race bibs, gift bags, and an awards ceremony followed by a reception.

OLYMPOS X HALF Triathlon

OLYMPOS X HALF is a half iron-distance triathlon held at Olympic Beach in Katerini, Greece, with Mount Olympus as the primary focus, not merely a scenic view. The event begins with a 2,000-meter swim at night, launched from a boat. It proceeds to a 92 km road cycling segment featuring 2,200 meters of elevation gain, concluding with a 16 km trail run that includes an additional 1,150 meters of climbing. The organizers classify the difficulty as 6 out of 7, positioning it as an endurance challenge in mountainous terrain rather than a typical fast half-distance triathlon. The course navigates through and across the Olympus mountain range, historically associated with the ancient Greek gods. Competitors should anticipate long, exposed stretches with minimal support. Each participant is required to have a supporter with an escort vehicle; a paid local guide and vehicle service is offered for those requiring it. The event is limited to 100 participants, available as solo athletes or relay teams. While the typical weather during the race period is mild, Mount Olympus possesses its own microclimate, leading organizers to make the final safety decisions close to race day based on prevailing conditions.

About cycling & running in Veria

Veria Base Miles

Running: Veria locals keep running simple, with steady Z2 from the city and easy shakeouts when legs are tired. Running for Brews Viera meets every week, runs a 5k-designated route, and keeps the vibe close to the most chill running club in the world. Agios Nikolaos Park gives runners scenic walking paths, small lakes, and enough calm space for drills or relaxed base miles. The 14th Xirolivado Mountain Trail Run 14km, 8ο Νάουσα Βέρμιο Trail, and 10ο Πέρασμα Του Αποστόλου Παύλου sit as nearby anchor races when road legs want trail work.

Cycling: Veria riders get the good stuff fast, because Mount Vermio rises close enough to turn a normal ride into a climbing day. GR Cycling Club brought riders here on April 5-7, 2024, and that says plenty about the area. The Haliacmon River runs 297km as Greece’s longest river, and you cycle alongside it for a while when the route goes that way. Mount Vermio reaches 1500m above sea level, and the climb progressively becomes more challenging. Triman, Triman Olympic Distance, TRIMAN 226 Full-Iron Triathlon 2026, and OLYMPOS X HALF Triathlon 2026 give the season proper anchor events.

Season: April to October gives Veria its best training block, with hot, dry weather and long room for base miles, intervals, gran fondo prep, and trail runs. Summer days can turn exceptionally hot, so locals move early, keep bottles honest, and treat thunderstorms as the one real calendar change. Mid-October to March brings cool, wet winter, but temperatures usually stay above or well above freezing during the Alkyonides. Snow falls once or twice a season, and runners and riders shift toward steadier Z2, lower-risk routes, and fewer big Vermio efforts.
