About cycling & running in NafplioNafplio Training Notes
Running: Nafplio gives runners an easy coastal base from the old city centre. Locals start behind Arvanitia beach and use the 11km loop around Palamidi to Karathona beach and back over the hill for honest base miles. Karathona sits about 3km from the start, so the beach works when you want sand to push up the heartbeat. The road winds along the cliff and comes across coves and beaches. The road winds up Palamidi and reaches a pass just after km 8. The brief names no run club. The 2nd Nafplio Marathon and Epidavrios Dromos Half Marathon are the anchor events.
Cycling: Nafplio rides start soft on Bouboulina's waterfront, Aigiou Street bike path, and the central pedestrian walkway. Locals use those strips for easy spins, then point the bike at Palamidi, Karathona, Tolo, Drepano, Nea Kios, and Kiveri when Z2 needs more bite. Tolo and Drepano sit 12 km from Nafplio, and Nea Kios sits 10 km from Nafplio. The Nafplio Aggelokastro Circle gives 73 km with 1000 m elevation gain, while the Nafplio Eleochori Paralio Astros Nafplio route gives 107 km with 1600 m. The climbs sit around Palamidi and the longer rural roads. The brief names no cycling club.
Season: March and August are the months when most people get on their bikes here. August riding works best when locals take the waterfront early or near sunset, then keep the longer gran fondo miles for routes with coastal air and steady rhythm. Runners keep Karathona, Arvanitia, and Palamidi in the mix, with sand for short efforts and the hill for intervals. Winter has no fixed change in the brief, so locals keep the same coastal roads, rural roads, wooded paths, and beaches in rotation. The city centre stays useful for easy riding and relaxed recovery between harder run days.
