The Panetoliko Mountain Trail Run takes participants up Panaitoliko Mountain in Parakampylia, near Agrinio. Three morning races are offered: a 21 km trail race from Pentakorfos to Agios Vlasios, an 8 km route starting and ending in Agios Vlasios, and a free 1 km run also in Agios Vlasios. This event welcomes both seasoned trail runners and newcomers to mountain running, with the short race fostering a more inclusive, local atmosphere. The longer route connects village surroundings with the mountain. The 8 km course includes approximately 350 m of elevation gain and loss, with a three-hour time limit. Organizers depict the mountain as featuring fir-covered slopes, streams with plane trees and wild water, alpine summits, waterfalls, rocky peaks, and ancient village paths. Now in its third edition, the event retains a developing local character rather than the feel of a large, established race.
Running: Locals run straight out of Karpenisi toward the Karpenisiotis valley and the bigger dirt above town. The Karpenisi Sports Training Center jogging track works for controlled intervals when the legs need something flat. The route to the valley covers 55 km and climbs +1,215 m, so it is proper long-run fuel, not a jog. The route to Prousos covers 50 km and gains +2,006 m, so it bites early. and APS Athinaioi Dromeis show up on the local radar. Evrytania Trail Races and Karpenisi Night Run feel like the anchor events.
Cycling: Locals ride Evrytania forest roads when they want base miles with quiet legs and good views. The Bike Odyssey Bikepacking Route connects about 80% dirt roads and 20% pavement, so gravel tyres make sense. Stage 2 - Karpenisi – Larissa runs 155 km and puts Tymfristos in the day as a Category 1 climb. Mount Tymfristos dominates the north at 2,315 m, and mount Kaliakouda keeps the south honest. Tarzan, Rentina, and Tymfristos are the names riders watch. Amarantos Gravel Experience gives the gravel crowd its anchor event.
Season: Spring through fall is the clean window for both sports, and late March to November is the Bike Odyssey kind of season. Summer gives Karpenisi warm days and cool nights, so Z2 rides and long trail runs can start early and still finish well. The city centre stays useful for coffee and water before the next climb. Winter changes the whole rhythm. Snowfall gets frequent and heavy, Mount Tymfristos turns serious, and the ski resort takes over the mood. Locals still train, but runners pick safer footing and cyclists wait for clear mountain roads.
