Oiti Ultra Trail is a mountain-running series on Mount Oiti in Phthiotis, Greece, with Ypati as the main start location. The event focuses on long trail distances: the source lists a 150 km course over roughly two days and eight hours, plus a 101.7 km Ultra with 5,265 m of climbing. It takes place over a September weekend, and the Ultra starts late on Friday night from Ypati square. This is not an entry-level trail race. Runners must be at least 18 and need recent mountain-running experience: either two trail races of 40 km or more with at least 2,100 m of climbing, or one ultra trail race of 60 km or more with at least 3,500 m of climbing. The organizer is the Phthiotis runners’ club “I Trachina,” and the race information notes that aid stations have not been defined for the 150 km listing, which makes practical planning as important as the distance itself.

Running: Locals run the Volos waterfront when they want steady Z2, clean rhythm, and sea air. The Pagasetic Gulf coastline gives continuous sea views with Mount Pelion rising in the background. Kordoni stretches 1 kilometer into the Pagasetic Gulf, and many runners use it for warm-up on race morning. The course runs 1 km from the waterfront along the gulf. The 3rd Topaleios Race 2026 adds a 5K option. Trail runners look toward 7ο Ηρακλής Γορίτσα Trail, 14ο Skiathos Trail Run, and Titnata Trail 2026, where the race distance reaches 13 km.
Cycling: Locals ride straight from Volos into a proper split of coast and climb. Volos Cycling Club gives the scene its backbone, with 163 members and a habit of organizing Gran Fondo 100+ Km routes. The Volos Coastal Road Adventure covers 85 km and gains 706 m, so it works for base miles with bite. The Mountain Wilderness Gravel Ride covers 74 km and climbs 2543 m, so the hard stuff is up on Mount Pelion. The Volos-Chania, Volos-Portaria-Drakia, and Volos-Stagiates routes point riders toward the climbs. The historic Pelion train route, Moutzouris, gives cyclists altitude without getting too tired.
Season: Spring suits runners and riders best, because March to May brings moderate temperatures and lower humidity. Autumn suits long rides, trail days, and intervals, because September to October stays pleasant. Summer turns Volos into an early-start city, with very hot days, fairly low humidity, and real sun off the water. Locals keep coastal Z2 before the heat builds, then save Mount Pelion for cooler hours. Winter stays usable for both sports, with mild temperatures. Snow shows up on a few occasions, but it usually does not disrupt training.
