Recurring 10K races near York

Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly

East Coast Chuffer
SAT OCT 3
The East Coast Chuffer is a multi-distance off-road running event in Scarborough, starting and finishing in Peasholm Park. Runners choose from 10K, half marathon, 20-mile, and marathon options, all using the historic Cinder Track, a firm trail laid along a former railway line. The route follows one clear corridor, so navigation is simple: shorter races use out-and-back sections, while longer distances add repeatable loops. Along the way runners get coastal outlooks, woodland stretches, and old railway character, with water stations about every 3 miles and a Grim Bling medal for every finisher.
Morley 2 x 5K (10K) RELAY ONLY Race
SUN OCT 4
The Morley 10K begins on Wide Lane in Morley, West Yorkshire, directing participants onto closed roads through the town’s historic streets. This 10K road race takes place in autumn, organised by Morley Running Club in partnership with Morley Town Council. The event is run by volunteers and operates on a not-for-profit basis, with race fees contributing to local charities. Sustainability is a key consideration in the race's operations. It accommodates competitive runners, novices, experienced participants, those in fancy dress, and wheelchair racers who have informed the organisers of any specific needs. The course ascends into town via Middleton Road, descends Queen Street passing the Town Hall, and arrives at Morley Bottoms before turning onto Brunswick Street and proceeding along Victoria Road towards Asquith Avenue. Participants encounter two out-and-back sections, several inclines, and a distinctive three-way road crossing at Morley Bottoms, adding complexity to the route compared to a typical town 10K. Spectators line the course, water stations are provided, and finishers are awarded an environmentally conscious medal along with confectionery. Prizes are given to the top three finishers.
TEN10TEN Sheffield
SAT OCT 10
The TEN10TEN Sheffield is a 10K multi-terrain trail race held in Endcliffe Park, Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Over 1,000 runners participate annually, making it a significant local event rather than a small club race. A 2.5K fun run is also offered, providing a shorter option for families and less experienced runners to take part. The course follows trails, not a flat road setup, featuring varied terrain with the start and finish located within the park. good support and a lively atmosphere among participants and onlookers. Charity fundraising is incorporated, with participants able to collect donations via GoFundMe.

Swaledale Runners, an England Athletics club with bases in Richmond and Northallerton, organizes the event. The race is based at The Batts, the park by the River Swale below Richmond Castle, which serves as the registration, start, and finish area. The course is predominantly on roads, featuring a brief grass section within The Batts. Participants will run past the River Swale Waterfalls, cross at Green Bridge, ascend Sleegill, and from the hill, can see the castle. The route then circles Catterick Garrison before returning to Richmond. It concludes by going around Richmond Castle on Castle Walk and descending into The Batts for the finish. The course is clearly marked, following paths around undulating hills, lakes, and woods, offering a varied landscape compared to a flat road 10K. Past race results are available for comparison, and Mark Caswell oversees the event. Runners may remain in the park after finishing to enjoy picnic areas or other outdoor pursuits.
Holmfirth 10K Road Race
SUN OCT 11
The Holmfirth 10K Road Race is a hilly 10K run starting at Hade Edge Bandhall in the Holme Valley. Runners collect their numbers on race morning. The course uses quiet country roads, differing from a flat town-centre loop, and appeals to those seeking a challenging rural race over a fast, personal-best focused run. The route ascends and descends through countryside near Holmfirth, offering views of Winscar Reservoir, Thurlstone Moor, rolling hills, and open moorland. The race evolved from the older Holmfirth 15, first held in 1968. The current 10K course was established to showcase more of the valley and surrounding area. Holmfirth Harriers AC contribute a portion of the proceeds to The Kirkwood, the hospice for Kirklees; participants may add their own donation during entry. Awards are given to the top three men and women, veteran age categories, and men's and women's teams. Additional Yorkshire Veterans Athletic Association championship results and prizes are awarded when the race serves as that competition.

Brigg Poppy 10k & Military Challenge
SUN OCT 25
The Brigg Poppy 10k & Military Challenge begins and ends in Brigg Market Place. Runners depart from the Lincolnshire town centre onto closed country roads. This is a 10km UKA-licensed and officially measured road race held in late October. It features a standard 10k race and a separate Military Challenge, with the latter starting 15 minutes after the 10k. The course is flat and fast, suitable for club runners aiming for a personal best, as well as those who prefer to jog or walk the route. Entry is limited to 1200 participants, and a virtual race option is also available. The Military Challenge covers the same 10km distance but presents a different task: competitors must wear boots and carry a loaded backpack, weighing 36lb for men and 24lb for women. Running is not mandatory in this category; walking or tabbing is permitted, making it more of a loaded endurance test than a typical road race. Places for the challenge are limited. Organisers request that participants in this category raise funds for the Royal British Legion. The event supports the Poppy Appeal. Optional event T-shirts contribute to the fundraising. All finishers receive a medal and cake.

About 10K races in York

York Training Notes

York hosts 69 10K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

York keeps running simple, flat, and social. Locals use the River Ouse, the River Foss, the inside of the city walls, and York racecourse when Z2 needs no drama. Holgate Harriers meet at York RI RUFC near West Bank Park around 6:50 for a briefing, then head out at 7pm. Holgate Harriers usually split into 5.5k, 7.5k, and 10k groups around South Bank, Acomb, Holgate, and Knapton. Run York, Heworth Harriers, and York Knavesmire Harriers cover everything from casual miles to marathon blocks. The Drop York, York 10K, and the York 5K Series give the calendar its anchor events.

York riding is a mixed bag, but locals can get about easy enough. The Planet Trail runs from near the racecourse out Selby way, and the 13km Orbital Route gives mostly off-main-road miles. York Rouleurs leave Cycle Heaven on Hospital Fields Road at 9am every Sunday, with 30, 40, 50, and 60-mile groups and a no-drop feel. Clifton CC, York Bike Belles, and York Outdoor Group fill in the club scene. South of the city, country roads carry steady base miles with fewer cars. York has few local climbs, so riders head for the Howardian Hills in about 45-60 minutes when they want proper uphill work.

May to July is the sweet spot for both sports. York gets its most sunshine then, with about six hours per day, and summer can sit warmer than the Yorkshire coast with temperatures of 27 °C or more. Summer runners lean on the river, the walls, and the 3km tarmac path inside York racecourse. Summer riders use The Planet Trail, the old railway line path, and longer Sunday routes like North Loop or Big Loop, Tiny Loop. Winter brings frost, fog, and cold winds, so locals keep layers handy, fit wider tyres, and move sharper bike work to York Sport Village Cycle Circuit.
