Miracle League of the Golden Isles 5k

The Miracle League of the Golden Isles 5k takes place at North Glynn Recreation Complex in Brunswick, Georgia. The 5k begins at 7:30 AM, followed by a Fun Run one hour later. Both events welcome able-bodied athletes, adaptive athletes, and wheelchair athletes, whether solo or assisted, reflecting a design focused on inclusion rather than a standard runners-only field. The race benefits the Miracle League of the Golden Isles, a nonprofit that provides recreation opportunities for children and adults with mental or physical challenges. Their initial major project is a specially designed baseball field with a rubber or turf surface, intended to make play safer and more accessible for individuals using wheelchairs, walkers, or other adaptive equipment. Future plans include an adaptive playground and additional recreation areas, all supporting the organization's aim to offer more people the chance to participate in organized baseball.

RUN JEKYLL

Run Jekyll is a race weekend on Jekyll Island, Georgia, featuring a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon. The races take place in January, offering cool running weather with daytime temperatures typically in the low 60s and nighttime temperatures in the low 40s. Participants can also opt for a double-race option, accommodating those seeking a short island run alongside others aiming for a two-day challenge. The routes highlight the island's scenery: live oak canopies, salt marsh, open beach views, nature trails, and parts of Jekyll’s historic district. The course crosses the Jekyll Island Club National Historic Landmark, a resort area linked to a significant restoration initiative in the southeastern United States. Packet pickup is located at the Jekyll Island Club Resort, complementing the event’s historic island atmosphere.

About cycling & running in Brunswick

Brunswick-St. Simons Training Notes

Running: Locals run East Beach when they want salt air and steady Z2. East Beach gives St. East Beach gives you 5 miles from one end to the other, generally with hard packed sand. Jekyll Island gives runners a 10-mile beach with firm sand and an extensive trail system. Avenue of the Oaks brings very pretty side streets with moss-draped oaks. Golden Isles Track Club keeps the week moving with regular group runs for varying distances and paces. Firefighters 5k 2025, Miracle League of the Golden Isles 5k, Sunshine Festival July 4th 5k & 1 mile, and RUN JEKYLL sit on the local calendar.

Cycling: Locals ride St. Simons for clean base miles on paths, not big climbs. St. Simons Island has 30 miles of bike paths, and paved trails wind through maritime forest. A 5-mile path runs from Neptune Park to Torras Causeway. Another 5-mile path runs from Kings Way to Fort Frederica. The FJ Torras Causeway connects Brunswick and St. 4 miles. The climbs are scarce, so locals use wind, bridges, intervals, and gravel west and north for bite. BRAG Dream Team Gullah/Geechee Club, Golden Isles, Brunswick Trees Bike Tour, and Pedal Golden Isles give the riding scene its anchor points.

Season: Spring and fall are the safest call when locals want beach miles, paved paths, and longer rides without forcing the day. The brief gives no named best months, but the coastal setup rewards mornings on East Beach, Jekyll, Ocean Drive, and the St. Simons Island Trail System. Summer runs best early, and the current summer note has 23°C with a high of 24°C. Tomorrow’s forecast keeps the same feel with a high of 24°C and a low of 23°C. Winter changes the rhythm more than the routes, with locals leaning into steady Z2, group runs, gravel, and calm laps when the islands quiet down.
