Vermont PANDAS & PANS Awareness 5K Run/Walk
SAT OCT 10
The Vermont PANDAS & PANS Awareness 5K Run/Walk is a 5K in Burlington, starting and ending at the Burlington Surf Club on Lakeside Avenue. It is designed as a fun run and walk, allowing competitive runners to race while walkers and families can participate at a more relaxed pace. The event aims to raise awareness for PANS/PANDAS, an autoimmune disorder that can affect children and young adults. The day features a DJ, refreshments, t-shirts, medals, prizes, and access to information and specialists who can discuss the condition. PANS refers to Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome, and PANDAS refers to Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infections. The event collaborates with The Alex Manfull Fund, a New Hampshire 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on awareness, education, and research for post-infectious neuroimmune disorders. Net proceeds benefit Dartmouth Hospital’s Neuroimmune Psychiatric Disorder clinic.
12th Annual Granite City 5k
SAT NOV 7
The Granite City 5k starts at 20 Gable Place in Barre, Vermont, at 9:00 a.m. Eastern. This 3-mile, 4.8 km Run/Walk is for Veterans, open to both walkers and runners. The race honors those who have served in the armed forces and brings attention to the challenges veterans encounter post-service. The Barre Partnership, Sons of the American Legion Squadron #10, and Barre Elks Lodge #1535 collaborate to organize it, providing the event with a local civic and veterans-service foundation.
Adirondack Health 5k Turkey Trot 2026
THU NOV 26
The Adirondack Health 5K Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving morning walk/run in Lake Placid, New York. It begins at 8:30 a.m. on a flat route around Mirror Lake. This event is designed for those seeking a short race before their holiday meal, including runners, walkers, families, and children 12 and under, who can participate without charge. The event attracts over 600 local participants and benefits local food pantries and Adirondack Health’s Fit for Life program. The course starts near the Beach House in Lake Placid and follows the lake loop. Older race materials also connect the start and finish to the Olympic Oval. Registered runners receive a long-sleeve Turkey Trot shirt. Check-in includes 12-foot inflatable turkeys. The race maintains its holiday theme with awards for the top three male and female finishers, and a mystery Turkey Runner: beating this runner earns an award and Thanksgiving bragging rights. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items. Dogs must remain at home.
GMAA Turkey Trot 5K
THU NOV 26
The GMAA Turkey Trot 5K begins and ends at UVM Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vermont, following the University of Vermont women's cross-country course. This Thanksgiving-season 5K has a donation-based entry: runners are asked for a small cash donation per person or family, or a food donation. Net proceeds support Feeding Chittenden. The race is open to all ages and welcomes walkers, proceeding in any weather. The course is a loop featuring cinder or paved path, grass, and some single track, offering a cross-country feel rather than a road 5K. Walkers and slower runners should start toward the back due to potential crowding on the opening stretch. The course prohibits pets, strollers, bicycles, and headphones. A free quarter-mile kids' race occurs just before the 5K. Timing is managed with a large race clock, recording only the top 10 times. Raffle prizes are awarded after the race to participants and volunteers.

SAT JAN 23
Lake City Running Festival
SAT MAY 29
This year marks the 4th annual edition. The course kicks off and finishes at the Plattsburgh City Beach, behind the Crete Center. After crossing the finish line, stick around for the Lake City Running Festival's after-party. It's open to everyone, with a suggested $5 donation for non-athletes. You'll find live music, food, beer/wine, cornhole, and raffles. Strollers, baby joggers, or pets cannot be accommodated.

About 5K races in Burlington-South Burlington

Burlington Training Notes

Burlington-South Burlington hosts 24 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the Burlington Bike Path when they want clean Z2 by Lake Champlain. Waterfront Park gives you 5 miles north to Colchester, and the path runs 2+ miles south to Oakledge Park. Sleepy Hollow has a 5-mile outer loop and a steep push to the Pinnacle. Sleepy Hollow has 5 miles of forested trails, and Burlington Wildways links Salmon Hole, The Intervale, and Ethan Allen Park along the Winooski River. Burlington Running Club meets Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm, and Saturday at 9am. The M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon & Relay and The Red Rocks 5K anchor the calendar.

Locals ride the Burlington Greenway, the Island Line Trail, and the South Burlington Recreation Path for base miles and easy spins. The South Burlington Recreation Path runs about 20 miles with connectors and loops, and it links back toward the Burlington Bike Path. The ONE Love Loop keeps things urban, and Pine Streets Arts & Craft Loop rolls through the historic arts district on Pine Street. Sunny Hollow has beginner-friendly trails near downtown, and Leddy Park and the High School Trails have quick singletrack options. The climb is 1 km with 441 m elevation. The route totals 25 km and +2,225 m.

Summer and fall are the best months here. Locals use summer evenings hard, because the waterfront still has enough light for a ride after work. The Emily Proctor Overnight route makes that feel normal, with 127 km and 1,480 m elevation for a solid gravel bike mission. Fall turns the cyclocross bike into the local cheat code on South Burlington dirt paths and light trails. Winter changes the setup more than the habit. Runners keep using clubs and paths, while cyclists reach for studded tires, front and rear lights, goggles, gloves, and a bike they can clean after road salt.
