About cycling & running in Daphne-Fairhope-Foley
Daphne-Fairhope-Foley Training Notes
Running: Locals use the Eastern Shore Trail for everyday miles because the paved path runs along the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. The trail runs from Spanish Fort to Weeks Bay and gives you over 30 miles of concrete, asphalt, boardwalks, and bridges. Runners hop on at Daphne, Montrose, Fairhope, Point Clear, Fairhope Pier, or Gator Alley boardwalk and run as little or as much as the day needs. Montrose gives the hilliest section, but the hills in Alabama aren’t very hilly. Plateau Pacers and F3 Mobile keep the group energy going. Prodisee Pantry Turkey Trot 2026, Keesler Federal Battleship 12K, and Magnolia Run anchor the calendar.
Cycling: Locals ride the Eastern Shore Trail when they want coastal Z2 without overthinking it. Baldwin County Trailblazers keeps the trail culture steady, and Pro Cycle Fairhope runs the real group-ride rhythm from Fairhope Ave. The Saturday Morning Ride goes 28 miles year-round at 7:30 am. The Tuesday Night Hammerfest covers 25 miles at 20+ mph in Spring and Summer, and the Thursday Night Social Ride covers 20 miles at 17/18 mph. Fairhope has 127 km of tracked cycling, and Day10-Fairhope-Gautier-72 runs 115 km with 140 m of ascent. Foley gives gravel on Magnolia Springs Loop, Mannich Ln, Norris Ln, and Roy Waters Rd. Montrose holds the main climbs.
Season: Spring and Summer feel like the fast season because Pro Cycle Fairhope stacks Tuesday and Thursday evening rides at 6:00 pm. Summer riders bring legs for the Tuesday Night Hammerfest, because that ride averages 20+ mph and can turn into intervals quick. Summer runners lean early, shaded, and coastal, with Fairhope Pier, Gator Alley boardwalk, and the Jill Hall Trail working well for base miles. Winter changes the pace more than the terrain. The Saturday Morning Ride stays year-round, and runners keep using the Eastern Shore Trail when the big heat backs off. Locals still get flat miles south of Fairhope Municipal Pier and small rollers north around Montrose.
