Palmetto Dunes Turtle Trot 5K

The Palmetto Dunes Turtle Trot 5K is a Wednesday morning 5K run/walk held within Palmetto Dunes Resort on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Beginning at 8:00 a.m., it concludes by mid-morning, allowing participants to easily incorporate it into a beach day. The standard entry fee is $30, with a reduced fee of $15 for children aged 12 and under. Each registered runner receives a custom race shirt and bib. The race route follows the resort’s firm, level beach, presenting it as a sand-and-ocean 5K rather than a road race within the town. Race-day packet pickup is available at the Dunes House. Registration is exclusively online. Participants are advised to bike or walk to the start, with car parking provided at the Centre Court lots. Sea Turtle Patrol Hilton Head Island serves as the designated charity partner. The series also includes a Thanksgiving Turtle Trot, which begins later and has slightly increased entry fees.

About cycling & running in Hilton Head Island

Lowcountry Miles On Flat Fast Ground

Running: Locals run Hilton Head Island-Bluffton-Port Royal on beach sand, shaded paths, and easy coffee loops. Sea Pines Resort and Palmetto Dunes Resort give you hard, flat beach miles that feel made for Z2. Jarvis Creek Park mixes paved and natural trails around the lake, while Sea Pines Forest Preserve has trails that wind through wooded areas and along the marsh. Old Town Bluffton gives you shady, tree-lined streets when you want steady base miles. Hilton Head Run Club does Tuesday track workouts at Hilton Head High School Track and Thursday bridge repeats at Bristol Park. Palmetto Running Company starts group runs in Bluffton and Hilton Head with 3, 5, or 7 mile options. Sea Pines Dolphin Dash 5K and Palmetto Dunes Turtle Trot 5K are the anchor beach races.

Cycling: Locals ride the same flat Lowcountry grid that makes running simple, with bike paths, resort roads, and packed beach sand doing most of the work. Hilton Head Island has over 200 miles of bike paths, so steady base miles are easy without hunting for a route. Bluffton Hilton Head runs 122.5 km on pavement, gains 42 meters, and never gets steeper than a 1.5% maximum gradient. Queens Folly Road gives a clean path toward Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina. Sea Pines Forest Preserve brings the paved and unpaved mix, and Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort has trails around an 11-mile lagoon. Pedal Hilton Head Island is the anchor ride with 62-mile, 40-mile, 30-mile, 20-mile, 10-mile, and 2-mile options. The climbs live in bridge repeats and tiny rollers, because this place is flat.

Season: May, June, July, August, September, and October carry the main outdoor season. Summer puts runners on hard, flat sand early, with beach runs and races like Sea Pines Dolphin Dash 5K and Palmetto Dunes Turtle Trot 5K feeling normal here. Locals start early when they want sunrise over the creek and cooler Z2 miles. Winter shifts the routine instead of shutting it down. Hilton Head Run Club keeps group runs moving by email, with track workouts and bridge repeats still in the mix. Palmetto Running Company keeps Bluffton and Hilton Head group runs active. Riders keep the cadence smooth, because the flats stay useful for base miles and intervals.
