Running here means sea-level starts with fast climbs into Maui's interior: the Iao Valley 5K and 10K head inland through lush valleys with 200–300m elevation gain, while the Nā Holo Wāhine 5K is a flatter oceanside loop. Cyclists tackle the legendary Cycle to the Sun, a 58km climb from Kahului up the slope of Haleakalā volcano to nearly 3,000m elevation — one of the most sustained and iconic climbs in Hawaii.
