Warner Robins Police Department Glow Run

The Warner Robins Police Department Glow Run is an evening 5K held at Freedom Field in Warner Robins, Georgia. Runners meet in the Freedom Field parking lot on Bear Country Boulevard. The event opens before sunset for packet pickup and on-site registration. The 5K begins at 8:00 pm, making the race about running after dark with glow gear rather than a typical daytime road race. This event is designed as a family gathering as well as a run. Vendors, food trucks, bouncy houses, face painting, and police and fire vehicles are available around the race. Registered runners receive glow body paint, a glow necklace, and two glow bracelets from the Glow Tent. Participants are encouraged to wear bright glow items for photos under the black lights. The first 600 registered runners are assured a race shirt and finisher medal. Proceeds benefit Special Olympics Georgia.

Red Clay Ramble

The Red Clay Ramble begins at Monticello Baptist Church in Monticello, Georgia, directing riders onto the red, hard-packed clay roads of the Georgia Piedmont. This gravel bike race, held in May, features a long course spanning 63 miles of rolling hills and a short course that begins shortly after the long one. The race, established in 2015, was among the earliest gravel events in the South, holding a significant place in Georgia's gravel scene before the format's widespread popularity. Race morning follows a local, understated pattern: packet pickup and onsite registration occur early, followed by an optional prayer at the podium, a racer meeting at the start line, and then staggered starts for the long and short courses. The route is suited for both novice gravel riders and seasoned racers, aligning with the steady clay-road terrain rather than a technical mountain bike-style event.

The Great Bacon Race

During the fifth and sixth innings at Pittsburgh Pirates games, large pierogis run around PNC Park, with fans treating it as part of the ballgame. The Great Pittsburgh Pierogi Race N'at is a brief in-game mascot race, featuring contestants dressed as Pittsburgh-style pierogi rather than typical team mascots. The current lineup typically includes Cheese Chester, Sauerkraut Saul, Oliver Onion, Jalapeño Hannah, and Bacon Burt, following the departure of Potato Pete and Pizza Penny, who were written out with a story about eloping to Naples, Italy. The race started at Three Rivers Stadium after the Pirates observed other MLB mascot races and desired their own Pittsburgh version. The pierogi concept originated from a homemade Easter dinner, evolving into characters with local character and Pittsburghese in their names. Earlier iterations were primarily video-board animations depicting various Pittsburgh locations before the pierogis entered the ballpark from right field. The characters occasionally race Milwaukee's sausages at American Family Field and Washington's racing presidents at Nationals Park, and those mascots also visit PNC Park. Introductions frequently use Pink Floyd’s "Run Like Hell" or the Beastie Boys’ "Sabotage," and children sometimes receive beanbags shaped like the racers during Pirates promotions.

About cycling & running in Warner Robins

Warner Robins Training Notes

Running: Warner Robins runners keep the scene simple and local. Locals use Center Park loop path, Fountain Park, Moody road park, The Walk at Sandy Run, and Wellston Trail from Kimberly rd's Fountain Park over to Corner Rd for easy miles. The Walk at Sandy Run is a 3 mile paved loop trail with lots of trees and a well maintained feel. Stone Edge neighborhood and the Pheasant Ridge Dr, Smoke Rise Dr, Quail Run Dr, and Deerfield Cir area work for steady base miles. The brief names no running club, so the anchor energy comes from Warner Robins Police Department Glow Run 2026, P B & J 5K, The Great Bacon Race, and the Byron 5K and 10K calendar.

Cycling: Warner Robins riders lean on Robins Crank Addicts and the Bike Store rides when they want wheels to follow. Tuesday Training Ride leaves Monkey Joe's at 5:45 PM for 35-40 miles at 20-21 mph, and Thursday Training Ride does the same. Wednesday Social Ride leaves Monkey Joe's at 5:45 PM for 30-35 miles at 18-19 mph, while the Wednesday No Drop Beginner Ride leaves The Bike Store at 5:30 PM for up to 25 miles. Oaky Woods gives locals a dirt option, and Red Clay Ramble sits as the gravel anchor event. Woolfolk Hill is the named bump, and the Woolfolk Hill 2mi route gains 35 m over 3.23 km.

Season: Spring and fall give Warner Robins the best training rhythm. Locals stack Z2, intervals, and longer rides there because the air feels workable and the calendar has room for 5K, 10K, and gravel goals. Summer changes the plan fast, with average highs ranging from 31-33°C and humidity making early starts feel less optional. Winter stays useful, with average highs around 15-17°C and snowfall showing up only as a moderately rare event. Runners can keep steady park loops going, and cyclists can still hold base miles, group rides, and cyclocross-style dirt days when the week cooperates.
