Columbus straddles the Chattahoochee River on the Georgia-Alabama border with mostly flat terrain ideal for steady running — the Gobbler and Holiday races use Rotary Park as their hub, both staying under 200m elevation. Cyclists have the nearby Opelika Okey Dokey gravel event 100km east, but the real draw is the riverside greenway system along the Chattahoochee, a 100km+ corridor of hard-packed trails that extends north toward the Appalachian foothills.
