New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ
Running in New York means navigating tight urban grids and fighting for park space — Central Park's 10.1km loop and the flat 42nd Annual Central Park Duathlon anchor the scene, but serious runners escape to Prospect Park in Brooklyn or the Hudson Greenway's 32km waterfront path running north to the Bronx. Cyclists have it better: the NYC 200K and Brooklyn 200K serve as the definitive long-distance events, threading through all five boroughs on a mix of Hudson River Greenway flats, Brooklyn's Prospect Park circuits, and the gradual climbs into the Catskills 100km north. The terrain is mostly flat below 50m elevation, with occasional rolling sections in outer Brooklyn and Queens, but the real challenge is managing traffic lights, potholes, and seasonal weather swings from humid 30°C summers to below-freezing winters.
