Grand Junction is high-desert terrain at 1,380 metres where running and cycling revolve around red rock and sand. The Rim Rock Marathon and Half Marathon run the rolling scrubland north of town; runners also join the Life in Color 5K downtown. Cyclists dominate here — Grand Junction Rides & Vibes covers 64km of singletrack and slick rock, while the Wild Horse Gravel (125.5km) and Adventure Fest MTB events draw serious riders into the surrounding Colorado National Monument and Uncompahgre Plateau, where long climbs and technical descents are the norm.
