Novara sits on the Piedmont plain between Milan and the Alps, with flat terrain ideal for road cycling and gravel riding—the Gravelliamo and Gravel & Wine events attract riders across the region's rural routes and wine country. The Fontaneto Agnolotto Half Marathon is the main local running event; most runners use the town's canal network and surrounding farmland for training loops. Cyclists have quick access to the lower Alpine foothills 30km north, where elevation gain becomes real, but the immediate area is best suited to speed work and endurance miles on flat ground.
