Reggio Emilia sits on the flat Po Valley floor where road cycling dominates — the Granfondo Matildica and Granfondo Parco Morgone both launch from here into the Apennine foothills south of the city, offering 1000m+ of climbing within 30km. Runners treat the city centre and surrounding flatland as base training territory, with the Da Reggio alla Reggia 10K and local parkruns favouring tempo work on the canal towpaths; serious elevation comes only on weekend trips into the hills.
