Rhine-Neckar

Rhine-Neckar is a sprawling metropolitan region centred on Heidelberg and Mannheim in southwest Germany, where flat river valleys give way to forested hills within minutes. Cyclists dominate here: the 34. Wildpferde RTF, a 150km randonnée through the Palatinate, and Graveln um die Burg Olbrück, a 50km gravel loop, anchor a scene built on rolling terrain and dense forest tracks through the Rhine-Neckar Bergstrasse. Runners find fast courses on the Neckar towpath and Heidelberg's castle-loop circuits, though the region's strength is clearly in long-distance cycling events and weekend gravel rides.
