About this race

The Melibokuslauf, held annually in June in Alsbach-Hähnlein, southern Hessen, is a trail and cross-country race organized by Turnverein 1898 Alsbach. It is named after the Melibokus mountain, which participants in the longer races must ascend. The primary running distances are 5 km, 10 km, and 21.2 km, all run on forest paths. The 10 km course involves an elevation gain of approximately 240 meters, and the half-marathon trail gains about 450 meters. The event also features a mountain bike sprint of roughly 13.4 km and student races covering 400 m, 800 m, and 1500 m. The 10 km and longer races commence at Sperbergrund, located at the terminus of Alsbach’s main street. These routes share the initial segment before the shorter race diverges towards the finish. Participants run past Hirschpark, encounter a short downhill, and then face a sustained climb. The 10 km course ascends from around 156 meters to 380 meters, while the longer route reaches the Melibokus summit at 545 meters. This race has taken place yearly since 1970, establishing it as one of Germany's long-standing popular running events. Timing is recorded based on net time. Refreshments are provided along the course and at the finish line, with food and beverages available in the spacious sports hall at the Melibokus School.
