Running: Locals keep the easy runs on the beach promenade, because the front is set up, flat, and straight. The promenade gives you more than 4 km for Z2 while you watch the sea. Parc de Rouelle gives you almost 17 km when you link the loop and arboretum through paths, woods, lakes, and the river de Rouelle. The lisière loop is 5 km with 160 m of gain. Campus running group meets every Wednesday evening. RCPH, ATSCAF, LHSA, ASCH, Havre AC, Co Harfleurais, and Montivilliers jogging keep the scene busy. Les 10 Bornes du Havre, Le Havre Urban Trail, and Foulées de Montgeon are the anchor checks.
Cycling: Cyclists use the city lanes first, then roll out toward the coast when the legs are good. La Seine à vélo runs 385 km between Paris and Le Havre, so it is the big base miles line. The Vélomaritime gives you 43 km between Le Havre and Etretat with a proper maritime feel and several inclines. The Vélomaritime route totals 5 km and 311 m of ascent. Cap de la Heve gives climbers 100 m of gain over 2 to 3 km, and the gradients can bite in parts. Locals treat the downhill with respect and keep speed under control.
Season: July and August are the best months, and most riders show up then for longer spins and warmer Z2. Summer makes bike rides feel better than long runs when the heat and humidity sit on the city. June and July can bring thunderstorms on about 2 days per month, so locals keep intervals flexible. The beach promenade still works for early runs, and Montgeon still works when you want shade and softer ground. Autumn and winter bring more regular precipitation, and January and February can bring snowstorms. Winter changes both sports toward shorter loops, tartan work at Stade Ladoumègue, forest slop, and steadier base miles.
