Bielefeld's cycling scene dominates the Teutoburg Forest hills just south and east of the city — the RTF am Teuto and Ravensberger Hügel RTF are serious 150km+ events that rack up sustained climbs around 600–800m elevation across the region. Runners have flatter options around the city centre and Johannisfriedhof park, but the real terrain action belongs to cyclists tackling the Teuto's rolling farmland and forest passages. The landscape is classic northern German cycling: relentless gentle-to-moderate gradients rather than alpine pitches, best tackled in spring and autumn when the Teutoburg's beech and spruce corridors are clear.
