Ingolstadt sits on the Danube in Bavaria with flat to gently rolling terrain ideal for steady-paced running and road cycling. The Sparkasse Ingolstadt Eichstätt Halbmarathon and Kaufland Firmenlauf Ingolstadt are the city's main running events, while cyclists use Ingolstadt as a base for the RTF im Wittelsbacher Land (154km) and longer routes into the Jura hills south and east towards Eichstätt. The Danube towpath offers straightforward running and cycling, though serious cyclists typically head south 30–40km into the Altmühl valley or west toward Munich for proper elevation.
