Running: Locals keep the easy running close to Zakynthos town, because the capital is relatively flat and the roads give clean Z2 before work. Akrotiri Running Route gives a medium-difficulty loop near Zante town, and the route goes around Bochali hill, to Tsilivi and back. The Akrotiri Running Route covers 20 km with +85 m of elevation gain. The Ainos Mountain Marathon covers 31 km and gains +1,227 m. Ainos Mountain Marathon sits on the anchor race list. The club scene stays informal here, with no named meet time to quote.
Cycling: Locals ride the rural parts of Zante when they want base miles, olive forests, farms, vineyards, and that proper island feel. The Tour of Zante gives experienced riders a 125km anchor route with extraordinary views. Podilatadiko keeps road, MTB, Trekking, and City bikes moving all year, with guided rides to Shipwreck beach, Gerakas beach, and Vasilikos peninsula. Climbs sit west and north on the mountainous plateau, while Vrachionas tops the island at 801m. Yiri MTB trail rides to Atheras at 756m, and Skopos MTB trail at Argassi suits skilled riders chasing singletrack and sea views.
Season: Summer gives the best months here, with hot, dry days and a coastal rhythm that rewards early starts. Locals get runs done before the heat, then keep intervals short or move to flatter loops around Zakynthos town and Alykanas. Riders use mornings for Z2, gran fondo pace, or MTB before the sun sits high, and Podilatadiko shifts into June-August hours with evening opening Monday to Friday. Winter changes the feel, because the island turns mild to cool and rainy. Locals still train, but wet roads, high humidity, and sizeable winter precipitation push both sports toward shorter windows and steadier work.
