About cycling & running in BasildonBasildon Training Notes
Running: The route covers 832 km with 35m ascent. Basildon Athletics Club trains there on Monday and Wednesday evenings, so locals can get intervals done without making a mission of it. Northlands Park gives Basildon parkrun its mixed-terrain bite, with an anti-clockwise course and 26 metres of elevation change. Locals use the two lakes, grass, tarmac, stones, and dirt for steady Z2 and sharper 5K work. Basildon 10km 2026, Basildon Half Marathon and Juniors Presented by Utilize September 2026, Test Track 10 Mile, and the Crown To Crown 5K evenings keep the calendar honest.
Cycling: Basildon CC is a small but friendly bunch, at the moment mostly a racing club. Basildon CC riders compete mostly at cyclo-cross, time trials, road racing, and MTB too, with the heart of the communication's and banter on Facebook. Locals take base miles out to Nor Marsh and Motney Hill, where the round trip runs 69 miles and keeps 42% traffic-free. Bowers Marsh gives a shorter 9-mile round trip, while The Bell Inn, Hordon on the Hill gives a 12-mile pub ride. Langdon Hills and Motney Hill are where the climbs start to matter, and the southern half brings some ups and downs.
Season: Spring and summer are the best months, especially when the May, June, July, August, and September Crown To Crown 5K evenings stack up with Race For Life Basildon and Phoenix Striders Summer Series 5K July. Summer stays friendly for longer Z2, track reps at Gloucester Park, and steady rides to Tilbury Fort or Rainham Hall, with mild differences between highs and lows and adequate rainfall year-round. Winter keeps the same oceanic feel, but Northlands Park changes underfoot. Trail shoes make sense when the southern half turns muddy, and cyclocross or MTB starts feeling like the right call.
